August 3rd

—that was the day Kisaki planned to commence Draken's death.

Izumi bitterly scribbles the said date on her test paper. August 3rd is today. and in a few hours, someone she had spoken to—someone who was kind to her—will die. a death she could prevent but without good reason.

this wasn't the first time her brother planned on something diabolical, and she was fine with turning the blind eye because she has always been that way; empty and without care for anything. but now, if she were to step in, she was throwing away everything she thought she knew about herself.

why step in now? how unfair for the others I could've helped as well

I really don't care, she repeats to herself for god knows how many times now.

last week she had met up with Emma like she said, and the pair had gotten close. Mitsuya tagged along to buy things for his sewing club, and although she practically ignored him, he was very nice to her. Izumi didn't like to put a name to how she felt for them, but deep down she knew their warmth changed her. an example of this change would be how she would even start up conversations now—only with Emma and Mitsuya though.

Mitsuya Takashi; she liked him a little bit differently than she did Emma for some reason. he was just too thoughtful and reliable, always trying to talk to her. he even sits with her every lunch ever since the trip to the mall together.

last week, the first time they ate lunch together

"geez, you really are all by yourself huh?" Mitsuya says with a small smile as he sits across Izumi.

"Mitsuya-kun," was all she could say in greeting.

"Emma was right, I really should hang out with you, Kurokawa-kun."

"you don't have to."

"best believe I want to. I didn't want our trip to the mall yesterday to be the last day we hang out," he grins at her.

"I barely spoke to you though," she cringes at the memory of unintentionally forgetting to respond to Mitsuya a few times when he talked to her.

"but you bought me a donut," he shrugs, glancing down on her food tray.

"you like tempura?"

"you noticed?" Izumi felt shy as she looks down on her plate as well, half of it was tempura.

"here," Mitsuya places all of his tempura on her tray, "in exchange for the donut."

she was quite taken aback, not knowing what to say. as Mitsuya began to eat his lunch all she could do was stare at him in awe.

where are all these kind people coming from?

even when she appeared rude, they reached out to her. her tear ducts felt strange and she randomly thought of drinking water, making a mental note of getting him another donut or something.

present

it was lunch time by now, but she doesn't leave her seat. never in her life did she feel this burdened, she doesn't even know what she wants.

why should I save him?

Emma likes him. he's a nice guy. he is Mitsuya's friend. he was nice to me and made me laugh once because he swears too much.

"oy, Izumi, get some fucking friends, you're kinda cool ya know—if you like, get rid of the shitty poker face for at least two minutes a day," he had said to me after he and Emma brought me home.
