Third POV:

Our story starts a long time ago when Agent Clint Barton was sent to kill the infamous Black Widow, the KGB's best super spy, and product of the Red Room. He made a different decision.

After seeing how broken she was, he spared her life, and got to know her as they finished her mission that happened to be in alliance with what SHEILD wanted to do but didn't have the resources to. They learned to trust one another and they learned more about each other than anyone else knew about them. After they finished their jobs, Clint convinced who he learned was truly Natalia Romanova to come back to America with him and work as a SHEILD agent. She eventually agreed, though she told him that no one but him could call her Natalia, and that her name to anyone else would be Natasha Romanoff.

As time went on, Natasha joined SHEILD and she and Clint became partners in crime, working like they had worked together for years. He would still call her Natalia, but only behind closed doors so no one knew who she once was. Natalia was never short to trust, but she felt something different with Clint, and one night, she told him everything. All the horrors of her past spilled out after a nightmare he had woken her up from, and he told her of his past, what made him into who he is today. They bonded over their regrets and ledgers, and became each other's therapists, waking each other up from nightmares, helping each other with panic attacks, and learning each other's trigger words. Natasha even learned sign language under the cover of helping her on missions, but really, it was so she could converse with Clint when he didn't want to use his hearing aids. They decided to be roommates in an apartment so that they could share the rent instead of one person paying it, they found a two bedroom, one bathroom, small apartment complete with a kitchen.

Eventually, both Natasha and Clint realized they had feelings for each other, but thought that the other didn't match those feelings. Natasha had never loved anyone, as the red room discriminated against it, so she didn't know what this new feeling was, and was terrified of it.

One night, Clint took out his hearing aids to sleep, like he usually did, and told Natasha to wake him up if she had a nightmare. This was normal, Natasha would have a dream about her past, or a flashback, and even, on rare occasions, remember something about her family, and she would wake Clint up, who would comfort her, and talk about to with her in sign language before going their separate ways to sleep again, or the opposite where Clint would have a nightmare, Natasha would wake him up or he would wake himself up, and they would talk about it with each other. This specific night, however, was different. It started out the same, but this time, it was one of those rare occasions where Natasha would remember something about her family before the red room. She saw a young girl playing with her in a yard, a man and a woman watching over them with smiles on their faces. Natalia touched the young girl a little hard, and the woman opened her mouth to scold her, but before she could say anything, Natasha woke with a gasp.

She sat on her bed for a minute, sweat dripping down her face, trying to catch her breath before getting up out of bed and walking towards Clints room. She opens the door quietly and sits down on the bed, her breath still ragged. Clint realizes she is there and reaches over to his bedside table where his hearing aids are to put them in. He puts on his hearing aids, and he is suddenly aware to the heavy breathing filling up his room, indicating Natasha is on the verge of a panic attack.

"Natalia?" He asks carefully, slowly moving over to where she is and wrapping his arms around her. "Natalia, you're safe, you're not there anymore. You are in a safe building on a safe floor, in a safe apartment, in a safe room. You're with me. I will keep you safe." After he says these words, Natalia starts to calm down, and she lays back, bringing Clint with her as she lays on his chest. "Do you want to talk about it?"

"No." It is her first word after the attack, and it sounds small, as if she is trying to hide from what she saw by being as little as possible, and right now, not being The Black Widow, or having to put up a mask for all to see, she succeeds.

"Okay. But just know, I' m here." He says.

"I know. Maybe someday." She responds, fishing to keep her eyes open for fear that if she lets go, she will be rushed back to the flashback, even though she knows she is safe.

"Sleep. You'll feel better in the morn ing if you do." Clint says.

"How do you keep them at bay? The nightmares?" She asks him, letting down even more of her barriers as the feeling came back to her, stronger than ever, making her curious about what it was. Was it fear? Was it hope? Will I ever know?

Clint voice shakes her partially out of her day dream, but the other part of her is still asking questions in her head. "I make a list, of all the things I'm grateful for, of all the things i'm happy about, of all those I love, and I go over them in my head, over and over. Tedious? Yes. But it works. You cant really run form them. At least, not in my experience, but you can try to think of the things that make you happy."

"Thank you."

"Anytime." He replies before asking a question. "Natalia?"

"yes?"

"What are your feelings for me?" He asks, timidly, wondering if this is the time to confess his love for her.

"I dont know. I have never felt this feeling, it is something new to me. I know I dont just think of you as a friend, but I never had many friends, and certainly no one was more than a friend, so I dont know what I should do." She admits, her face showing confusion, hope, compassion, and love when she looks into his eyes.

"I love you." He admits, frightened of what she will think.

"I have never loved someone. What is it like?" She asks, wondering if this love is what she feels for him.

"Love is amazing. It is when you would do anything for the other, feeling attached to the one you love. It's when their touch sends fluttering into your heart, making it beat faster. Love is a feeling you can't really describe because everyone has a different definition." He explains.

"It might take me some time to say it, but I think that is what I feel for you." She says, looking at him in the eye before her gaze flickers down to his lips for a moment before they crash together in a soft kiss. Clint breaks away, leaning his head on hers.

"Take your time, mon amor."
