THEY FINALLY KNEW

she knew something was wrong. something was wrong and she hoped it wasn't because she didn't come home the night before because she fell asleep in the public library when studying.

but she was correct.

and her parents knew.

because once she got home, she didn't even have time to think before her head was slammed into the railing of the stairs.

"where were you!?" her father screams as he shoves her to the wall, "i-i was studying." she stutters out in pure fear as he then pushes her to the ground.

"you little slut, i know what the fuck you did." he harshly chokes her making her instantly cough. at that effect, he smirks, "both your mother and i know."

"k-know what, d-daddy?" she continues to choke as her face starts to turn strawberry red.

"that you went to the diner and ate a whole meal before heading to the damn library." he moves to hold her jaw tightly and she swore he might break it.

"i f-felt li-ike i would have fainted." she attempts to catch her breath and soon her mother walks out of wherever she came from, "you're back, i see." she hums.

smirking, brenner goes to pull el's hair making her cry out loudly at the harsh pull. tears were staring to come out of her eyes like waterfalls as he pulls her up and slam her back into the railings.

she cries out loudly as she starts to feel blood drip out of her hair and down the side of her face. kicking her shin, he kneels her down on the floor and pulls out his gun.

but she barely flinches as his gun hits her temple.

her mother just stared at the scene from the entrance frame. a glass of scotch in her hand as her arms and legs crossed.

el knew she found it amusing. she knew.

brenner clicks the safety click off the gun and grins widely at his daughter. "you're scared." he tsks, "i like it."

"shoot me." she whispers, her glassy eyes staring up at him as her chest rises up and down.

"what?" he snarls and chokes her again as she barely moves this time, "i said; shoot me."

her mother laughs from the corner and exits the scene to back to where she was.

"you think i won't!?" he screams in her face as she flinches without knowing, "shoot me." she kept repeating.

"just do it, you hate me. it'll be good for the both of us." she breathes out as her breathing begins to quicken.

she knew a panic attack was coming. she knew. but still, she attempted to suppress it.

"just shoot me. i like to be gone anyways." she whispers and continues to stare into his eyes, "a cliff. there's a cliff five minutes from here. shoot me and throw me off. no one would know, they all know me as the girl with a hood on. they wouldn't notice, no one would."

his expression stiffens and presses the gun harder onto her, "don't test me."

"if you don't, i will." she continues, "so just do it." her voice cracks as a whimper escapes her, "t-throw me off the cliff. no one would have to know."

he starts to tighten his grip on her as she cries out, "please do it. please, i beg of you. it'll be quick and easy, you won't remember me and that's okay."

"shut the fuck up!" he slaps her across the face as she falls to the ground due to the impact, "why won't you kill me?" she whispers, "because i will do it."

"you wouldn't dare." he growls as she pulls out a bottle of sleeping pills, "y-you can cover i-it up. no one would know. they'll think it was a suicide." she rambled out as she pours the pills onto her palms, "they'll never know." she drowns herself with the pills, swallowing every little one, "s-see.." she wipes her mouth as he watches in disbelief, "t-they'll never know."

"you fucking bitch!" he pins her stomach with his knee and grabs her throat like he loved and pointed the gun at her temple, "i was supposed to kill you! i was supposed to have that satisfaction!"

"do it." she murmurs tiredly, "please shoot me, dad." not using the word 'daddy' like he always told her to along with 'papa,' "shoot me."

he screams in her face, about to pull the trigger, making her smile. his index finger was about to push down and then a loud bang echos through the house.

blood splattered over her small body and face as her father fell to the side. gasping, she stares at his dead body as his eyes stared back at her making her scream.

he was dead.

a bullet between his eyes.

everything else was a blur. when the police kicked the door down and when they came in to spread around the house.

when she started screaming and sobbing uncontrollably as a woman and hopper held her.

when her mother was brought out with handcuffs behind her back whilst glaring at her.

and when she felt that everything was moving slow motion and that ringing started in her ears, she knew the sleeping pills were kicking in.

and nobody knew.

nobody knew till she dropped unconscious in hoppers arms, and when she was lifeless.

that was when people knew.

after a long time. people finally knew.

"get a fucking ambulance!" hopper shouts, moving el's unconscious body down to lay on the ground.

he felt her pulse. nothing. he didn't feel anything.

no one knew why the girl had knocked out. they assumed it was because of his fathers sudden death in front of her.

but when hopper saw the empty bottle of sleeping pills on the ground behind the leg of the table, he knew instantly.

and she was saved despite her not wanting to be.

because people finally knew.

and people were bound to talk.

but at least people knew, right?

••

a/n: this is a flashback chapter to explain what happened in the past. i wrote some about mike and wanted to about el as well.

also!!! men having mental illness is so not talked about enough and when it is said, people tend to ignore it.

that is utter bullshit bc both genders can experience depression and suicidal thoughts and not only woman can.
