All desert plants mentioned in this chapter and the chapter before that are shown by picture are edible desert plants that I specifically researched for this exact environment and story purpose so although the people are fictional the basic environment of the desert is not. Agave plant which was pictured in the last chapter is an edible plant that grows in the desert.
"That felt weird," sighs Blaze. "A little too crunchy for my liking and my tongue's liking."
"Let me apologize to your tongue then. This should help knock out that hard texture," said Khali. In his hands were a couple of spineless prickly pear fruits off the cactus.
"Really the stuff Baloo talks about we can eat?"
"I don't know who that is but um all cactus fruit is edible in the desert and they're the best source of water." Your see the taller Sanguaro Cactus protecting the Prickly Pear Cactus it's the cactus that you can actually extract water from it. And it's the most abundant plant in the desert since they are the desert trees, Blaze."
"What did you do with the spines?" asked Blaze.
"I saved them they make excellent needles for sewing fabric to make things." spoke Khalid. "Sanguaro Cactus is a much plainer and simpler plant than its name suggests."
"This is the Desert Christmas Cactus Shrub my sister Leena planted it here from seed and it took off. This plant also contains edible fruit and it tastes like strawberries. 🍓In the desert besides wild honey this will keep you from getting sick it's high in Vitamin C. And it's also high in Vitamin A. The fruits will restore your water content for a short period of time." said Khali. "You can basically go three weeks without eating in a normal environment but
"Ah, my feet are burning," groans Blaze.
"The sands burned away the soles of your shoes. That happens in the desert. Luckily the first plant I mentioned the Agave can make you a new pair of shoes with better sole protection. But first, he extracted water from the Sanguaro cactus by using an abandoned woodpecker hole. The plants were used to providing for the animals and the nomads of Khaldoun who wandered through it. In the Khaldoun Desert there was very little increase in elevation and so the cold did not destroy the Sanguaro cactus and it grew in abundance. It was only one of two plants capable of lending shade to other plants. The second plant was the Pinyon Pine.
