Chapter 27: I love you too

Kate's pov

We both were lying awake, on the cliff  watching the stars. It had been a few weeks after Josh had read the letters. I had expected him to cry, to be sad, angry but he was calm. He'd taken it better than I'd thought he would. I kinda knew what the letters had, as I'd met with Asher and he'd told me a bit about it all.

I made it a point to get Josh here on the cliff every single night. It had always calmed me down and given me the feeling of home when I'd lost everything. I thought it would help him too. And well, I try not to be alone at night these days, the nightmares are haunting me, and shhh, I've not told anyone. Yeah, not even Josh because he already has his problems, I don't wanna bother him with mine.

"So, how was your day?" I asked Josh.

"Fine."

"Okayy. And how are you feeling?"

"Fine."

He has been like this since those letters. It's really hard for me to break that shell he has built around himself again. It's not like he is avoiding me or anything, it's just that he smiles less these days. I've not asked him why but I guess it's time to do it.

"Josh, get up."

"What? Whyy?"

"Just get up. We need to talk."

"Babe, are you breaking up with me? What is it? Do you like someone else?" he asked as he sat up, a wicked smile on his face. If you guys are thinking what I think y'all are thinking, then stop thinking, it's not like you think it is. Yeah, we're not dating... yet.

"Pull that smirk of your face and tell me what's bothering you?"

"You."

"What?"

"You are the one bothering me."

"Am I?"

"Yes."

"Well, okay then. I shall leave you alone," I said as I tried getting up when I was pulled back down.

"I was joking. And nothing is bothering me."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes. Very sure."

"Then why did you say that you're fine?"

"Because I am fine."

"Josh, I've seen 'Friends' for over 100 times and I know it when someone says "I'm fine," they're not."

"But I'm not saying it in the Ross tone. I really am fine and you don't need to worry."

"For the sake of the universe, tell me what is bothering youu!!"

"Katherine Adams, nothing is bothering me. Stop worrying."

"Is it the letters? I know its the letters. You've been acting weird since you read those. Is it your parents? Don't worry, I'll be there with you if you want, when you meet them. Or is it Asher? He'll unders--" I was silenced by his huge hand over my mouth.

"Shhhhhhhh. Stop talking."

"I shaa.. ta yuh han wahh."

"No, I won't. I know you'll start talking the second I take my hand away."

"Yuh aah eviee."

"Noo.. I'm not Evie, I'm Josh. Who's Evie?"

I pushed his hand away and got up to leave. I'd reached a few steps away when he back hugged me and put his head on my shoulder. I tried to get away but damn he is strong.
