[Scaramouche POV]

Scaramouche entered the Zapolyarny Palace and came face to face with the Tsaritsa. One would expect the air inside to be warmer than that of outside, yet the reality was opposite.

He looked up at the Tsaritsa, who was silently watching him. The only sound that came in the room was of her tapping her feet. The agents that guarded around her bowed to Scaramouche in respect, but he didn't care.

The silence went on for a minute, so Scaramouche decided to begin. "You called for my presence."

The Tsaritsa smiled and adjusted her position. "Yes. I did. I heard about what happened to your satellite. What was their name?"

"Y/n."

"Yes." She replied dismissively. "I don't have the words to express my opinion on the situation. To say the least, I'm quite impressed."

Scaramouche raised an eyebrow. Impressed, huh? That's an interesting take.

"I did give you an assignment, though, if you remember." She looked at Scaramouche, her smile fading away. "I'm assuming you will report to me what I asked for in Y/n's stead."

"Huh?" Scaramouche frowned. Why do I have to do it?

He didn't want to recall the events of what happened. The more he did, the more it seemed to haunt him.

But he refrained from objecting to the Tsaritsa's command. Whether he liked to admit it or not, the Tsaritsa was bearing a threatening aura, one that seemed to be targetted at him.

Eventually, he found the words to answer her question. "It was pathetic."

"Hm?" The Tsaritsa raised an eyebrow.

"Y/n was useless. They couldn't perform the most basic of tasks, let alone aid me in my mission." He shook his head. "Of course, their incompetence led to their death."

He swallowed the bitter taste in his mouth, knowing that he was lying.

Deep down he felt that he was the cause of their death.

But he'd never let himself feel the guilt for losing someone like Y/n. Why should he? Y/n was the one foolish enough to barge in the face of danger.

That's what he wanted himself to believe. It was Y/n's fault. They were responsible for their demise.

If anything, I did them a favor by granting them a second chance at life.

"How bold." The Tsaritsa smiled, a satisfied expression on her face. "I do believe your feedback is an accurate one. Y/n indeed was a defective satellite.

"However, I thought that defect would work in your favor, Scaramouche. Given your own origins, it seemed like you'd be much more comfortable with a satellite that was less than perfect."

Scaramouche's eyes widened as the Tsaritsa continued. "After all, you were the only one against this idea in the first place."

He chuckled, deciding to brush it off. "How considerate of you, except I didn't appreciate it quite as much as you expected."

The Tsaritsa nodded. "I can see that. Though I must refrain you from completely dismissing your satellite. While Y/n was rendered useless by their spirit taking over, they did do one job correctly."
