'Daddy's back in town and he wants to meet Madeline.'

The husky immediately went to go explore as soon as we opened the front door, leaving Oliver and I alone in the kitchen.

"Thanks," I started to speak once the dog was out of my peripheral vision. "for not eating my dog."

He let out a deep laugh that was infectious enough for me to laugh alongside him. "He's alright."

When the laughter had faded out, he pulled his shirt over his head and took a bag from under the kitchen. "Care to join me?" He asked before motioning his head in my direction to flash a smile. I nodded my head sheepishly, turning to follow him through the front door and into the garage.

"What're we doing in here?" I asked in the darkness, feeling around for the nearest wall. Finally, I found the concrete wall and leaned against it with a sigh.

The lights flickered on and Oliver looked down on me leaning against his chest "Oh!" I shouted before scrambling away from him.

He let out another deep laugh before setting the backpack down next to the dead animal. Instead of responding he shook his head and smiled, amused by my awkwardness.

"I can't watch this," I gasped at the objects he was pulling out of his bag. My brain tingled at the thought of him using these things on an animal, dead or not.

"Come on, Maddy, you're gonna be sucking humans dry as soon as you can find someone to sink your teeth into. Being a vampire isn't rainbows and unicorns like you think."

"No!" I shouted, "No way."

Vampire or not, I was still humane enough to be disgusted by the thought of tearing part an animal.

He didn't respond and instead began searching through his backpack again and stood up behind me, who had my back turned towards him with my arms crossed in front of my chest like a child. He tapped my shoulder and held out a pair of headphones for me to put on.

Maybe I'm just an idiot who makes everything romantic, but I swear to you at that moment all I wanted to do was kiss him. He smiled at me with his two sharp teeth slipping out from their hiding spot in his mouth, his tongue lapping around them to retain moisture.

'Thank you.' I mouthed and slipped them over my head. He proceeded to drag me by my hand over to behind the animal, sitting down and sitting me behind him so I'd lean against his back and he against mine.

He didn't say anything while the machine roared to life and the stench of the blood inside the lion became prominent.

Somehow I'd forgotten all about the animal and only paid attention to the way his body moved while he worked. I wonder if Oliver is the only one who cuts the food around here. Blood pooled on the table and dripped down the table into large buckets Oliver had tactically set below.
