'I want the giant teddy bear!'
Oliver and I had stopped at a costume shop on the way home, laughing at the Twilight themed costume section in the very far back.
We both picked out each other costumes, I, picking out a very obvious Freddy Kruger hat along with a costume, and him, a big white dress, a tiara, and a gallon of fake blood.
Julie and Aria had never looked happier than when they watched the two of us walk through the door together.
Oliver had been surprised to see my things in his bedroom and felt guilty once seeing the empty blood bags still stacked in his nightstand. I took them out before he could even attempt to apologize, knowing now that he wouldn't want them there was all the motivation I needed to get them out.
"Lookin' good, Carrie," He laughed as I exited the bathroom and into his bedroom. His hair barely fit underneath the hat, which I now realized was a little small for his head. He motioned his hand down his torso to show himself and I covered my laugh.
"I could say the same about you, Freddy."
"Are we ready to go?" Aria knocked on his bedroom door and I listened to her footsteps fade down the hallway.
My eyes scanned the room for the pillowcase I'd decorated a few days ago and stopped on them after I caught the toned down shade of blue on it.
"Let's get out of here," I said, pressing my lips together.
We walked down the hallway together, the door covered in false cobwebs. My eyes glanced to the floor at the dog dressed in a Dracula costume. "Bones?"
"Ironic, isn't it?"
I bent down to stroke his fur, he wiggled his hand in between my fingers. Julie stood beside the island, sipping out of a plastic cup in a witches costume. My eyes trailed over to the girl standing next to her, a devil.
"Playing a little dress up, are we?" Oliver smiled, his grip on my waist loosening to walk over to his sister.
Bones bit down on the pillowcase and began to drag it on the floor, mumbling, "This isn't so bad, is it? You think I'll last all night?"
"Bones," I said, crouching down to his level, "We're not going trick or treating, buddy. We're going to the carnival."
He dropped the empty pillowcase and his jaw at the same time. "No trick or treating? What kind of monster are you?"
I frowned at him, sitting up straight.
"The kind of monster who's going to win you a new chew toy." Oliver walked out from behind the island.
Bones rolled his eyes and trotted over to the door, sitting patiently on the door steps. "Let's hurry up then."
Everyone made their way out the door and into Aria's Jeep. It was a big car but surprisingly, we barely fit inside. Oliver and I were looking into each other's seats while Bones stood on my lap, sticking his head out the window.
