That Night III

"Montgomery!" He yelled, knowing he was nearby, "I'm gonna need your help in here!"
Travis sprinted into the room, dropping everything he was holding and rushing to Andy.
"Is she breathing?" He asked, a hint of panic notable in his voice. The captain stayed silent but nodded his head and cleared his throat, answering the question without speaking. He was too afraid to speak. He didn't know what he would sound like, would his voice be shaky or would he need to act like that wonderful night between the two firefighters so many months ago, that cherished memory he shared with her, was all in his imagination. He had to be strong, he couldn't let the team find out.
"Aid car, now." He said. He managed to keep his nerves at bay as he obsessed over Andy's pulse, her breath and her heartbeat, although he felt a tear fall into his lap. Robert didn't realise he had been crying, so he wiped the tears away and rubbed his eyes hard. Travis then entered the lounge, the backboard shaking in his grip.
"Lay her on the floor?" He said, acting like this was any other patient, not one of his closest friends.
"Yeah," Sullivan responded, "on the count of three."
Both men looked at each other, counting one and two in there heads, silently, but in time.
"Three," was voiced out loud by the pair as they rolled her onto her left side. Reaching out with one arm each, they grabbed the faded plastic board, wedging it under her back, before rolling her to face the ceiling as she was previously. Without stopping to count again, they both lifted her without hesitation and speed walked down to the rig. Luckily, nobody saw them. Nothing would have to be said until necessary. The captain sat in the back as Travis drove to Grey Sloan - he held onto Andy's hand, subtly, so it wouldn't be seen. He didn't know why he was, they hardly knew each other. 10 words had barely been exchanged between the couple. Well, they weren't a couple. Andy and Ryan were a couple.

"Female, age 31, extreme nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain..."
Travis trailed off and flicked his eyes down to look at her. He thought he saw her eyelids dance.
"She passed out about 15 minutes ago - we got her here straight away." He was trying to stay calm, but the fear overtook him.
"Were you on a call? Was she in a fire? Did anything fall on her?" Dr Grey stood at the side of her gurney, assisting as the two firefighters wheeled it on the other side, and Helm stood at the back.
He looked down again and saw her begin to stir.
"No," his answer was short,
"Sounds like appendicitis," Meredith said, glancing over at her co-worker.
"Dr Grey, I think she's coming around."
You could tell a wave of relief drowned him, and maybe even a hint of excitement could be detected as Travis spoke. Robert never spoke.
"It seems so, let's get her to an exam room," Helm looked at her boss as she talked, needing a seal of approval from her superior. The elevator dinged and the doors crept open. The team of 4 walked through the corridors, watching intently as Andy began to regain her consciousness.

"Heyyyy," Travis reassured her, "you're okay, how are you feeling?" He continued.
"Like I've been ran over by a truck." She chuckled gruffly.
After slowly taking a minute to absorb her surroundings, she quickly realised where she was. Nobody had ever seen anybody sit up so fast. She looked around at the doctors and machines and visibly began to panic.
"What's going on? Why am I here? I don't wanna be here, I'm leaving." She spoke quickly and frenzied as she attempted to clamber off of the still moving gurney.
"Hey hey hey!" Robert rushed to her side and wrestled to keep her in the bed. "You can't leave, the doctors need to find out what's wrong." She relaxed as she saw him there, and calmed down as his voice soothed her. She was still just as quick to bite back though.
"There's nothing wrong, just let me go." Andy sounded emotionless.
"Miss Herrera," Helm began to speak up.
"Andy," Meredith carried on, then shot a look towards the resident beside her, urging her on, letting her know it was okay to talk. She then raised an eyebrow, telling Helm that if anything stupid was said, there would be problems. Big problems.
"Herrera, you can't leave yet, I'm sorry. You were in an ambulance, albeit by your teammates, but that's besides the point. It's protocol, okay?" Although her question was rhetorical, she looked at her patient, making sure she had understood why she couldn't leave, then she continued.
"And even if it wasn't, I still wouldn't let you leave! It's our job to keep you healthy, just like it's your job to put out fires. The best way for us to do our jobs is to catch every little detail. Just like how you would look at the cause of a fire, we have to look at the cause of you passing out. Okay?"
Andy nodded, giving a slight smile to show she was okay now. She couldn't help but grin at the fact that her doctor was able to relate her sickness to a fire. Not many people would be able to be that imaginative.

"So Andy, we're gonna need to ask you a few - um - uncomfortable questions. We normally recommend being alone for this, so if you want we can kick your friends ass's out of the room for a minute." Dr Grey laughed, glad Andy had been put in a cheerier mood now.
"Oooh that's a tough decision." Came the reply. Travis and Sullivan looked at her with longing eyes, silently begging her to let them stay.
"Soooo," she was purposely dragging this out. She grinned from ear to ear, internally cackling at the tension she was building inside of them. She paused for another moment. "Do you know what? It would be sooo nice to have my friends here with me, but it would be soooo funny to see there asses get kicked. I guess I can always see that another day."
She felt the pressure in the room release.
"Alright, they can stay." The pair of boys smiled at each other but didn't dare say a word.
"Alrighty, let's start off with an easy one. Have you been diagnosed with any pre-existing conditions?"
"Um - I had appendicitis when I was about 17, but that's pretty much it." The brunette uttered.
"Shit. Sorry, that's what we suspected originally. I mean it could be a number of things, we'll just have to run some more tests, alright?" the doctor sighed.
Andy raised her eyebrows and tilted her head really slightly forward as her own unique way of saying yes.
"Right," she began to carry on with the list of questions, "this one is a little uncomfortable with the boys here." She looked across at the lieutenant, double checking she didn't want them to leave.
"Um - are you currently sexually active?" She stuttered. Travis' face screwed up in disgust, but Robert turned away to face the window. His cheeks flushed rose red and he shifted around awkwardly in his chair. He had no reason to feel like that, but still he felt a cough hitch in his throat - he didn't want to let it out, to grab any more unwanted attention from Travis that he had already gained. Andy's face became hot and she pulled herself up straight and managed to clear her throat before replying to the question.
"Um, yeah I guess." She answered.
"Sorry," The blonde interrupted. "Looks like I might've stuck a nerve there." She finished as she grit her teeth together.
Travis eyes flicked up to look into Andy's but his head stayed still. He look devilish, like he could stare into her soul. Like he knew things. He was about to know some very bad things that nobody wanted him to know.
"Just one more question now, Andy." Came a voice from the bedside. She nodded.
"Is there even the slightest chance that you could be pregnant?"
Both firefighters spat there water.
Andy chortled, struggling to breathe for a second or two. She gathered her mind quickly and took a long, deep breath.
"Um - I...

I hope you enjoyed this, I wish I could've done more on it but I think it was really starting to turn into more of a book than a short story though lmao, I'd already written way more on this than I had planned, but who knows. Maybe at one point I'll make it into a book. Thanks for reading
