"What was that?!" Ripley whisper-yelled in the captains ear, slamming the door shut, making sure the man sat helplessly across from him knew this was business.
"What was what?" Robert pretended to be clueless, hoping his old friend hadn't noticed the look he had in his eyes - hadn't remembered it, more to the point. It was the same one, dated back 10, 15 years ago maybe, from a time when the pair were inseparable. They would bar hop together, Lucas always grounded by his wife but being a wingman, watching his friend stare into the eyes of a woman across the bar with a look of lust and desire burning in his eyes. He could recognise that look anytime, anywhere, no matter how long the gap between them grew and how much hate and blame stuffed the wounds closed.
"Don't play dumb with me Bobby, you know exactly what I'm talking about." The look in the chief's eye was stern and serious. He wasn't sure if he was talking to Sullivan personally or professionally yet, but either way, he wanted to find out what happened.
"Seriously, just tell me what I did." Robert said, his voice slightly shaky as he hung onto the last string of hope that Ripley didn't notice what happened, that it was a different issue entirely.
"You - you j - you just don't want to admit it to yourself, do you? I saw the way you looked at her Bobby, and I know you've barely known her 5 minutes but it's obvious."
"Who?" He was still playing dumb.
"You know exactly who I'm talking about." Luke said intimidatingly.
"I don't."
"Liar." That annoyed Robert. Being called a liar was the one thing he hated the most (even though in this case, it was true.)
"Okay, okay. Shut up! You're right, but I don't even know her name, plus, she's my subordinate! I could lose my job!" He caved in reluctantly, letting his walls down for just a few seconds in the privacy of his own office.
"Ha! I knew it. I'm right, I'm always right when it comes to you!" Luke cheered.
"Luke." Robert said quietly.
"Okay, but you seem to be forgetting something here bud. Me and you, we go way back, remember, or were you too busy blaming me?" He tried to joke.
"Don't." Robert felt his eyes sting and turned to the side to face the window, hiding.
"Sorry, too soon," that received a nod from him, " but just remember, I'm your boss. What I never heard, I could never know." He stood up and ran a hand through his hair, winking at Robert before dropping a bag full of paperwork and exiting the room.

"Andy what's up with you?" Maya looked at her friend questioningly, trying to figure out why Andy was acting so weird. The brunette shrugged, turning away.
"Look, I know you really wanted that job, we all wanted you to get it too, but you can't keep hiding from the truth. It's time to face the facts. I know you don't like him, and I know that's probably what this is all about, but he's nice so you're gonna go up there and introduce yourself to the captain, and then invite him down for lunch. Got it?" The blonde stared at her, raising her eyebrows encouragingly but also with a sense of threat. Andy nodded weakly and rose from her seat. Maya was right. The captain was the problem. The problem wasn't that Andy didn't like the captain, it was that all she had thought about since he arrived was him, and she didn't like that. Andy glared at her one last time, grabbing a hold on the door frame as she swung round out the room and walked unsteadily towards the stairwell. One by one, she made her way down each step. She stopped at the bottom, stood blankly in the reception before she turned to her right. She put one foot in front of the other as she reached out shakily towards the handle. 'No, knock first,' she thought. She pounded her fist lightly against the door, waiting for any kind of signal to let her know it was okay to enter, or not okay.
"Come in." She shuddered as she heard his deep, husky voice echo through the door.
"Hi sir," she said, "I'm not sure if you caught my name or not earlier, I'm Herrera - uh Andy Herrera..." she trailed off awkwardly. The man sat across from her was distant, yet the way he looked at her made her spine tingle with electricity.
"Um, yeah. I've heard all kinds of stories about you, lieutenant." He replied, watching in awe as her brown eyes sparkled in the sunlight.
"Oh, good or bad?" She asked, confused at who might have told him.
"Both." He chuckled. "I knew your dad, a long time ago. I worked on a few calls with him, god it must have been 8, 10 years ago maybe. Around the time my wife died. He was on that call actually..." he went silent, but took his head out of his hands and looked into her eyes seeking any sort of comfort she could provide him. He found just her presence was enough.
"Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that." Andy stuttered quietly.
"No, don't be. I'm sorry. I haven't even known you five minutes, I learned your name about 20 seconds ago and I just dropped some pretty heavy stuff on you. Never mind. If that's all you came for, you can go if you'd like." He said, twisting his head to look out the window as to not meet her eyes. As much as she was hesitant about coming, she didn't want to leave now. She still had mixed feelings about him. Hate, resent, happiness and warmth. All she knew was she came here for one thing, and she had to do it. She couldn't let Maya figure her out.
"Um actually, I came to see if you'd like to eat lunch with us. Only if you want though, don't feel pressured." She said.
"Oh, um. I'm not sure about that, I don't know..." his eyes darted around the room.
"Why, are you busy or do you not want to come?" She questioned.
"Do you not want me to come?" He stuttered as his gaze met hers.
"No, no, I do, it's your first day here, I think it'd be nice for us all to get to know you. That's all." She smiled.
"Okay, we'll just this once then." He stood and the pair made there way out of the room, grinning awkwardly. She knew she still had to act like she hated him though. She couldn't let anyone know what she felt, especially not him. He knew he had to act annoyed by her, he knew he couldn't let his guard down. Then people would figure it out, and nobody could know what he felt about her, especially not her.
