"19 line up!" Lucas Ripley yelled across the catwalk at his team, beckoning them in the direction of the barn. They all groaned and dropped their spoons into their cereal bowls, rolling their eyes and scooting their chairs out loudly. Although they were a family, they never missed a chance to show their disgust at an early morning meeting, line-up or uniform check.
A common theme in the group was their relief. Ripley was a great chief, always on the side of his men and women, but despite his high ranks, he was an awful captain. Nobody could wait for the title to be passed to somebody new. Andy's body shook and shivered arms she along the catwalk, watching each of her friends slide down the pole one by one, to then find their place in the line. That job, it was hers. And this new person she was about to meet, well, with the help of her dad, swiping it right out from her fingertips.
"Station 19, I'd like to introduce somebody to you. Now I know you were all rooting for Herrera, and to be truthful, I was too. But anyway, as I was saying, none of you were expecting this. Over the years you have all worked so hard to make this place a home and a family, and nothing can break the bond you have. That's why I found the perfect guy to add to your team. I think he's gonna make a great asset, and I hope you all agree, so team, I'd like you all to meet Captain Robert Sullivan!"
A few scarce claps and awkward laughs were scattered as a man emerged from behind the shutters.
He was tall. Andy was the first to notice. His eyes were dark and impossible to read and his smile was so bright. She noticed that too.
"Hey guys!" It's a pleasure to meet you all." He spoke in a rough voice. His eyes scanned over everyone, reading their names and ranks from the badges emblazoned on their uniforms. He grinned slightly at everyone, until he got to Andy. His eyes met hers and the world stopped turning for a moment. It was just the two of them, standing all alone. His face soften for a second and he titled his head, taking every part of the picture in as if he were never going to see her again.
"Sullivan is an old buddy of mine, we go way back so I trust he will do a great job here and push this station to the limits." Ripley said as he walked over to Robert, patting his shoulder.
"We got a lot of paperwork man, let's go. Better get started." The chief spoke quietly as he pulled Sullivan out of his trance. The pair disappeared up into the office and the team stood in the barn. As they walked away, a pit grew in her stomach. There was something strange. She had a bad feeling about this man, but she didn't know what.

"Well he seems nice enough, right Andy. I feel a bit better about losing now, knowing that our stations not gonna be run by a complete asshat." Jack walked over to his friend, still slightly bummed about losing the captain's race. Andy stood there starstruck. Her gaze never left the wall.
"Hello! Earth to Andy!" Gibson waved his arms stupidly as she snapped out of it.
"Oh um yeah I guess. I don't know though. Something about him just seems... off. Get what I mean?" She replied.
"I guess you've got a point. It's too early to tell I mean we've know the dude for what, a whole five minutes total? He doesn't even know our first names yet, so I don't really think we have the right to judge him just yet." He said.
The pair chuckled and followed the rest of the team back up to the beanery where their soggy bowls of cereal were sat waiting for them.
Andy slumped in her chair and rested her head on Maya's shoulder. She didn't want to eat any more, wasn't feeling hungry. She just needed her friend. Her comfort. She needed to tell someone about this feeling. She had a bad feeling about this, and she needed to know why.
