The older man, Richard’s father I'm guessing, locks his gaze on me, “we just need a name, girl, just a name and nothing will ever touch you again. Just a name.” He forces out, between a clenched jaw.
My gaze swings around the room, gazing at everyman in the room. My gaze snagging on Jace. “he started it all Jace. You know what they are like, how relentless, how unforgiving they are. You know who they are, just don’t make me say it.” I'm falling apart, my knees drawn up to my chest and my arms wrapped tightly around my middle, holding myself together. “please Jace, don’t make me say it.” I choke out.
His shoulders drop and his head bows. “oh god, Erin. No, no, no. Erin, girl—”
The men straighten, sharp eyes land on us, “the name?”
“Saunders.” The name makes me flinch and my breath whooshes out of me and I'm shaking again, horror on my face and tears streaming down my face.
Weak, I'm so weak. They broke me.
“the young gun who they were training to step up was announced missing around that time.” Ricky says with an ashen face. They all look the way and no one would look me in the eyes anymore.
They wait for confirmation but they know. “he wasn’t going to stop and I have nothing left to give. I had to stop it. It was either him or me.” I'm in hysterics. “it was him or me! I couldn’t take anymore! I'm already dead!”
