Padfoot's POV
The thrill of battle took over me again as the cart raced through the Orc ranks. The spikes on the wheels turned out to be very efficient at loping off heads. Balin was driving, Dwalin handled the crossbow mounted on the cart, and Kili, Fili and I watched the rear. Thorin was ahead of us, urging us on. Once we finally reached the bottom of Ravenhill, we had to get rid of the cart. It was too heavy for the remaining rams to pull. Unfortunately, Balin insisted on being left behind, while Fili, Kili and Dwalin jumped on the remaining rams. I didn't need one, thankfully, since I was a huge dog. It didn't take long to catch up with Thorin after that. We engaged the enemy, and began to kill them. However, when we finally made it to where Azog had been controlling his forces, there was no sign of him. I gave a low growl. Something wasn't right. Kili, ever the optimist, proceeded to point out the obvious.
"It looks empty." he said, puzzled. "I think Azog has fled!"
Thorin had a very grave look on his face.
"I don't think so," he whispered. I barked in agreement.
Thorin suddenly turned to his nephews.
"Fili, take your brother. Scout out the towers. Keep low and out of sight. If you see anything report back. Do not engage, do you understand?" he commanded.
The two nodded their assent. I felt another one of those weird urges. I needed to go with them. Just then, a squad of goblin mercenaries appeared.
"We'll take care of them," Thorin said to the pair of brothers. "Now go!"
They immediately obeyed, and I let out a bark before trotting after them. For the next few minutes, there was no sign of the enemy. The bad feeling I had before was getting worse. The last time I had this feeling, I lost James and Lily. So, when the two brothers heard the clanging of metal, I stiffened. When Fili told Kili to leave, I suddenly realized what was going on. This was way to easy.

It was a trap.

As soon as the realization hit me, I suddenly grabbed Fili's sleeve and pulled. He and Kili both looked down at me, puzzled.
"What's up with him?" Kili asked in a puzzled and slightly annoyed tone. Thankfully, Fili took me a little more seriously.
"Maybe he can sense things that we can't. He did spend a lot of time with that skin changer. Maybe we should go back," the elder responded.
Kili was all for pushing forwards, but my growing insistence and Fili's growing unease were thankfully enough to chance his mind. I mentally sighed in relief. We weren't out of the woods yet, but hopefully we would get out of this alive. As we crept back to where we had last seen the others, a strange breeze suddenly swept over me. It was strange in that it seemed to carry words. The words that had been haunting me were suddenly whispered in my ear. I wondered, just for a moment, if maybe the time to protect the Line of Durin had come. I knew from observation that Thorin was of the Line of Durin, which meant that Fili and Kili were too. I kept my guard up as we crept back to the the overlook of Ravenhill. As we reached it, we suddenly heard a desperate Thorin crying out their names. But his voice got smaller as we got closer to the overlook. I had a really bad feeling. I knew that I needed to protect Thorin, but I didn't want to leave Fili and Kili. I looked at them. They looked rather startled to hear their uncle cry out. I knew that they would want to look for him. If I could get them all together, then my job would be so much easier. I put my nose to the ground and began to sniff. It took some time, but I finally isolated his scent. Then I took off, the brothers following me. Thankfully, they seemed to figure out what I was doing. Suddenly, I heard a roar. A very familiar roar. I growled. Azog! It seemed as through Thorin's scent was going to take me to about where that roar came from. I did a quick sniff, but there was no sign of Dwalin's scent. That could only mean one thing. Thorin Oakenshield was battling him. Alone.
I immediately took off towards the sound of the roar. The sounds of battle were coming from there now as well. The brothers were close behind me. When we arrived, Azog was gone, but Thorin was fighting another squad of Orcs. I mentally frowned when I saw him. He looked exhausted, and there was blood dripping in his eye from a cut on his brow. Fili, Kili, and I immediately engaged the enemy with Thorin. Once they were all taken care of, we looked towards the path. Azog was standing there, a cruel smile on his face. Thorin, who somehow got ahold of his elvish sword, Orcrist, again, strode a few paces closer. Fili and Kili fell in step beside him. I took Fili's right hand side. And together, we faced the monster.
The fight was difficult. Azog was doing a surprisingly good job of holding us off. The ice didn't help either. When we finally managed to allow Azog to slip beneath those waters, I was relieved. I walked over to the waterfall, and gazed at the eagles slaughtering the Orcs with satisfaction. But I knew I should not have turned my back. A startled cry and a crash made me whip my head around. Azog had burst from the ice. He had seized an unprepared Thorin by the throat, and was dangling him slightly above the pit he burst from. In orcish, he demanded that Kili and Fili lay down their weapons, or Thorin would die. Not on my watch, I thought. Hoping to take the monster by surprise, I slipped away and skirted around him. When Kili and Fili hesitated in putting down their weapons, Azog brought down his dagger. And then everything seemed to slow down. There was no choice. No chance. No time to think of a second course of action. And with that thought, I jumped. My body slammed against theirs, knocking Thorin out of Azog's hold. But it did not stop the blade. I could not stop the scream as the blade was forced into my back, immediately severing my spinal cord. A groan of pain told me that Thorin was alive, but hurt. I fell to the ground, unable to move. I tried, I really did, but I just couldn't. Azog began to advance on Thorin, a predatory smile on his face. My heart nearly jumped out of my chest at the sound of flesh being pierced. Azog's face took on a look of surprise. I looked down. A sword was sticking out his chest. The sword suddenly twisted, and Azog fell to the ground. Behind him stood Fili, a determined look on his face. He bent over Azog again, and once more ran him through, completely pinning him to the ice. He didn't stop until he was sure that Azog was not breathing. Then, everything seemed to be a flurry. After helping Thorin, who seemed okay for the most part, rise, the brothers and uncle knelt down next to me.
"Thank you," Thorin whispered, running his large hand through my thick fur. But I couldn't feel it. I couldn't feel anything. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Kili flinch at the injury on my back. I wanted to tell them that it was fine. I had died before after all, but I couldn't do anything in this form. Not for the first time, I wished that I was human. Everything was tainted with black now. I could barely see. I just wanted to close my eyes and go to sleep. The last thing I saw before I gave in was the piercing blue of Thorin's eyes as he stared at me sadly. And then, it all went black...
And there you have it! I'm almost done with this book! I hope my readers like it. I've never done anything like it before. I think my plan for the future is to just stick to doing imagines, and not do anymore stories. Sometimes the imagines are a bit rushed, but I usually don't have the patience and dedication to stick to a story. I'll leave the stories to the experts lol.
