Song is Carry On Wayward Son by Neoni.
You know, the original plan was for both Thorin and Sirius to die, but it didn't really work with what ended up happening. I might go back and add an alternative ending or something. We'll see. Anyways, a special thank you to all of my readers!! Y'all were the ones who really kept this story going. Anyways, on to the defining chapter! (Points to whoever gets the reference ;). Please enjoy!
Sirius' POV
I groaned as I began to come to. My whole body ached. What on earth had happened? I reached up, intending to swipe my hair from my eyes. That's when it hit me. Since when in the last hundred or so years did I have hands? My eyes slowly opened upon a strange sight. It appeared that I was alone. Sitting up, I examined my surroundings. I was in a small room. It was white, a glowing white. It was empty, except for the bed I was now sitting on, and a tall mirror. There was no sign of a door. I slowly got up, and began to move around a bit. I felt, for the most part, fine, although strangely sore. It wasn't the soreness that I should be feeling after my spine was ripped open. It was the soreness I would usually feel after a long and tiring exercise. I walked over to the mirror and began to examine myself. I looked, and felt now that I thought about it, clean. I didn't think I'd ever been this clean since after the first shower I had after Azkaban. I was wearing a clean white robe as well. As I was examining myself, I suddenly noticed a strange thing. All of my scars were gone. There was no sign of the Orc's torture, the oppression of Azkaban, there wasn't even a scar where Azog had stabbed me.
"Okay, this is weird," I muttered to myself.
After doing a thorough examination of the walls, I still found no evidence of a door. I was familiar with hidden passages, so I thought there might be one where the mirror was, but no such luck. I began to wonder how whoever had me got me in here in the first place. Feeling rather bored and a little hungry, I plopped myself back on the bed. Almost as if someone was reading my thoughts, a plate with some food and a book appeared. They both seemed to be hovering in mid-air. I hesitantly touched the plate, and it immediately began to fall. I barely caught it in time. I took the book as well, this time a bit more prepared. The food turned out to be delicious, and the book wasn't half bad either. I didn't know how long I was in there. Food and water would appear every now and then. I had been wondering about my need to use the lavatory, but I hadn't needed to yet. That was probably a good thing. Finally, after what I'm sure was days, someone appeared. Like literally, appeared. I had been reading at the time, and nearly jumped out of my skin at the sudden noise. I quickly recovered, however, and began to study my visitor. She was beautiful, with waist-length black hair, searing blue eyes, and stunning features. Her glowing eyes showed compassion as she regarded me.
"Hello Sirius," she said in an ethereal voice. "I apologize for the lack of contact. A few things came up that needed immediate tending to."
I could only stare as she gracefully perched herself on the end of my bed.
"I am sure that you are wondering why you are here." she said soberly. I snorted.
"That's the understatement of the year."
She only smiled at me.
"Ah, Sirius. I missed your attitude. It was usually quite entertaining."'
When I gave her a confused look, she only smiled at me again.
"Yes, Sirius, we've met before. In this very room, in fact. It is natural that you forget our previous meeting, as it was the arrangement we agreed upon."
I frowned.
"And what, pray tell, was our arrangement?"
She gave me a sympathetic smile.
"It was agreed that if you fulfilled your end of the bargain and saved the Line of Durin, then you would be able to assist your grandson in the hardest task he will ever have to accomplish. I'm afraid that his death will be necessary to accomplish this task. Because you fulfilled your end of the bargain, I will allow you to see him for as long as he holds the Resurrection Stone. Your friends, James and Lily Potter, and Remus Lupin, will be there as well. Once this is done, you and the others will pass on. You will be unable to return to the land of the living, even if the Stone calls you. You also agreed to stay in your animagus form, as it would cause far less suspicion. Then, I implanted a prophecy into your mind, as well as in the minds of the Elves. The prophecy was to be a tool to guide you to your purpose. Is everything now clear to you?" she explained.
I sat there for a few moments, going over everything in my mind. I looked up at her.
"When will the time come for me to help Harry?"
She gave me another smile.
"Very soon. A few more hours if I'm not mistaken."
I nodded. I could do this. Another rather obvious question popped in my head.
"And who are you, anyways?"
She laughed, and it sounded like ringing bells.
"I am Nenwé, the Valor of Mercy. It was my decision to give you a second chance and bring you here."
I gave a respectful nod.
"Thank you, my lady," I said.
She just laughed that clear laugh again. At that moment, she rose.
"I am afraid there are matters that I must tend to. I will retrieve you when you are ready." she said. After I acknowledged her, she vanished as suddenly as she came. The next few hours were torture. I wanted to see my godson again so badly, but I was also nervous about seeing my other friends again. It pained me to know that Remus was also gone. I could only imagine how Harry must be feeling. Finally, the lady, Nenwé, reappeared. She looked at me soberly. I jumped to my feet.
"It is time," she said softly. She placed two fingers on my temple, and closed her eyes. And, once again, everything went black.
And when I came to myself, I was standing in the Dark Forest, staring into the sad, scared green eyes of my godson...
And that is the end! Thank you, ladies and gentlemen, for your patience with me as I updated this story! I daresay it turned out rather well. I hope y'all enjoyed it. Oh, and I know that Nenwé is not her real name. I couldn't remember it, so I just made one up. Please comment and let me know if there was anything I could have done better, or if there was any particular part of the story that you really enjoyed. Thank you for reading this story!
