What Bailey Bennett had said about Evan was playing on her mind, Evan really was starting to grow on her and they were actually becoming pretty good friends. He was funny, kind and he treated Casey well. She knew that if she wanted to lose Casey to anyone then Evan was the person she would want her to be with.

She was still thinking about what Doug had said too, they were young and you never know what could happen in the future, but she was determined to find out why Bailey thought that about Evan.

So was Casey, evidently because when they were warming up for their Monday evening training she asked the other girls, "Hey. Do you know why Evan got kicked out of school?"

They laughed, "Well, we don't know for sure." One of the girls said.

"But there's a lot of rumours." Her friend said.

"I heard he was selling meth to all the band kids, and that's why they suck." Harriet was in Band for a semester at the beginning of freshman year so she knew that wasn't true. She only joined band for the extra credit and she was right, they did suck.

"Well, that's not true I was in band and none of them were on meth. Although, they did suck so you're right about that."

"I heard he had sex with Courtney B's mom and Courtney A walked in on them."

"I heard he dressed as a wolf for Halloween and ate a live sheep."

"That one's probably not true." Casey said.

"I don't know, Casey. People eat gross stuff." Sharice said.

"I think were settled on the Courtney's mom thing, it's the most reasonable." Harriet said.

"Well, it must have pretty bad for him to get arrested."

"Arrested?" Casey and Harriet said in unison, they looked at each other.

"Yeah, you've never heard any of this?"

"They're just sophomores."

"Yeah. I forget. The superstars are still just babies."

"Little baby." They laughed, as Casey and Harriet were deep in thought. Was Evan really the type to get arrested?

The next day when the girls got home Sam was in his bed, according to Doug there had been an incident and it was better to leave him alone. However Harriet was just sitting downstairs and Doug came down, "Sam came out of his room and he wants to talk to me and you."

"Really?" She said, confused.

"Yeah, we must've been good help the other day."

"Hmm, okay." She said, following him upstairs to Sam's room. She sat between Sam and Doug. She was nervous,. What if she said something wrong?

"Hey." Doug said, he sounded as nervous as Harriet felt."Did, um, something happen at school?"

"Yes."

"Do you wanna talk about it?" Harriet spoke up, putting her hand on Sam's shoulder.

"Yes." He repeated.

"Okay." They paused waiting for him to speak, but he didn't.

"Now?" Doug asked.

"I was doing what you said and formulating a plan to steal a woman."

"Oh, we didn't say that." Harriet tried to explain.

"And I was simply taking notes, and these guys were laughing at me and asking questions, and I don't know what was funny. But then they kept laughing harder and then Bailey Bennett..." He paused.

"That bitch." Harriet said, Doug didn't mind her swearing he was too focused on Sam.

"Well, I am all there! I am!"

"Of course, you are." Harriet said.

"I know you are, some kids are just assholes, Sam." Doug explained.

"Yeah, that's just the way it is."

"But even the assholes get girlfriends. It's easy for everyone, but not me."

"No, it's not, Sam." Harriet said. "It's hard for everyone."

"Not for Dad. He stole Mom away from the boy with the Jeep."

"Look, maybe I made that seem a little bit too easy. Even after your mom got rid of that other goofball, she shot me down like 10 times, okay?"

"That's just the way it works." Harriet said, trying to sound more knowledgeable.

"So, you think I could get a girl to like me?"

"Of course, we do." Harriet and Doug said, together.

"Then, we're gonna need some chocolate covered strawberries." Sam said, taking his hood down. Harriet was a little confused but decided not to question him, in fear that it would make him more upset.

Harriet opted out of going with the boys to see Sam's crush and give her the strawberries. It seemed like a thing that should be between them. Casey and Evan were in the sunroom hanging out. Casey had told Harriet that she was going to ask him about why he got kicked out of school.

Casey hadn't hung out with Harriet in over a week. She had even opted out of Movie night to hang out with Evan. She had been very apologetic about it, however but Harriet didn't care. She just wanted her best friend back.

The two had been hanging out for about 15 minutes when Evan walked through the living room wearing a very broad smile. "Hi, Harriet. I'm just heading out."

"Okay, I'll see you later." She waved as he left.

Casey came running through into the living room, squealing. She jumped on Harriet still squealing. "What's up with you?" She said, laughing.

"I kissed Evan!" Casey shouted. Harriet's heart dropped, but she kept smiling, trying to hide the fact she was upset about it.

"Wow. Um, that's-that's great."

"I know!!" She said, happily. "Also, he didn't eat a live sheep. He stole a tuba."

"A tuba? Like, the instrument?" She laughed, weirdly happy about this. Yes, she may have kissed Evan but she told her about it right away which made her feel like she had her friend back.

"Yeah." Casey said, also laughing.

Harriet went to bed that night feeling incredibly conflicted, she was sad that Casey didn't like her back but she was happy she had her back, even if it was just as a friend. Harriet needed to have Casey in her life so she was happy that she was.
