Harriet tossed and turned all night thinking about Casey and Evan's kiss. She honestly thought that she would never date him, I mean she even said that she didn't want to date. In Harriet's opinion it would've been better if she didn't date her because she didn't want to date instead of having to watch the only person she had ever loved kiss another person and have to pretend to be happy about it.
But, she had done a good job of hiding her feelings up until now and had no plan to let that change. Casey could never find out. It would ruin their whole friendship. She would probably have to move out the house and that is certainly not what she wanted to do.
So, she pulled herself out of her bed and into the shower. Once she got out of the shower and dried off, it was only 7 am. Doug had agreed to go with the girls on their morning run, which was good because it meant Harriet didn't have to be alone with Casey and she would find out what happened with Sam and the girl he liked.
She went into Casey's room to wake her up, so that she wouldn't notice anything was wrong. Harriet had learned that if she wanted to hide how she felt and not have Casey notice something was bothering her she had to stick to her routines and make sure she was as normal as possible around Casey.
When she got to her room she ran and jumped onto her friend, "Rise and shine!" She said wearing a broad smile. "Come on, get up. It's a lovely Tuesday morning."
Casey groaned, "Why are you so happy?"
"Why not? Maybe, you should try it sometime." She clapped next to Casey's face. "Wake up, come on. We have to go a run with your dad." Casey got out of bed, smiling at how happy her best friend was and Harriet went downstairs.
Casey came downstairs 10 minutes later in her running clothes. Whilst they were waiting Doug had told Harriet about how it went with Julia, who was Sam's therapist as well as crush. Which to Harriet seemed like a horrible idea but Doug had told Sam that he can't date his therapist which seemed to help.
"Come on, Red. Let's go!" Casey said mimicking Harriet from earlier and grabbing her hands and pulling her out the door.
"If you two idiots are gonna be like this the entire run, then I'm leaving." Doug joked, following them out of the door. Casey took Harriet's hand, swinging it back and forth and skipping. Harriet smiled, liking the feeling of Casey's hand in her own. She soon let go, though, starting of on her run as Doug and Harriet followed, matching her speed.
The run took them to a lovely road surrounded by fall trees about half way through. The leaves were orange and falling off the trees and Harriet thought it was beautiful. "You guys worried about the regionals? I know Clayton Prep has that one speedy Mexican girl but I know you could beat her." Doug said, Harriet stayed quite focused on her run, expecting Casey to answer but she didn't. "Are you offended because I called her Mexican because she actually is."
"I kissed a boy." Casey randomly said.
"Wow. That's something." He said, awkwardly.
"Yeah, I wasn't gonna tell you, but apart from this idiot," She pointed at Harriet, "You're kinda my go-to, which makes me feel like a loser."
"Oh, you are." Harriet said, laughing.
"Wow. That's your first kiss, huh? That's-that's a big deal."
"Oh, god. You're being weird."
"I'm not being weird."
"You are."
"Yeah, you are. You're like running farther away, moving your arms weird."
"No, I'm not I'm just gangly. It's how I run." He stopped. "Wait a second. Hold on a second." Casey and Harriet turned to him, jogging on the spot. "Who is this boy? What school does he go to? What do you guys do together? How tall is he?"
