It was finally the day of Harriet and Casey's track meet. They were both filled with nerves about the big day as they sat on the ground stretching their legs. Harriet could see the concentration in Casey's eyes and Harriet planned to beat her.

Harriet couldn't even hear the cheers from the crowd or the chatter from the Clayton girls as she was so focused on winning. Another girl from the Newton team came and sat on the ground behind Casey, "Gonna break that record, superstars?"

Harriet smiled at the girl and nodded.

"Don't jinx it. And yes." Casey replied, very confident. Harriet must admit she had more points for confidence than she did. Harriet always got nervous before track meets, it was just one of those things like some people always get sick when the winter starts or how Casey always got a tummy ache when she was nervous about things.

Harriet was brought out of her thoughts some time later when Casey waved to someone in the crowd. From the corner of her eye, she could see Elsa waving to the girls, Harriet didn't wave back as she was way too focused on the race ahead of her.

Evan raised his hand as a sort of wave and he worn a small smile. Casey flipped him off with both hands and stuck her tongue out at the blonde boy making the ginger girl laugh. Casey smiled at Harriet which made her heart flutter. She had found that recently she had been falling harder and harder for the taller girl and she was finding herself getting flustered at the most mundane things such as a smile or a hug.

Casey looked over at the Clayton team, the mexican girl that Doug was talking about and the team captain was talking to the couch. She had black hair and freckles dotted all over her face and she was very pretty, Casey was also staring at her the same way that Harriet was, they were looking at her to try and see any nerves. She seemed pretty confident but Harriet knew there was a high chance it was just an act.

"Girls 400 meter." Was heard over the speakers and Harriet exhaled slowly, preparing herself. Both teams walked over to their starting position. Harriet looked up in unison with her best friend, who's starting mark was right next to her. She shook her head fast to shake off any last nerves and focused on getting a good start. She knew that was key.

Right at that moment she heard the starting pistol fire and she took off, getting a good start like she had hoped for and she was right on Casey's tail. She soon caught up however and they were neck and neck. Harriet sprinted as fast as she could, looking straight ahead not daring to look over to her best friend, who she was sharing the lead with. That's where Casey messed up however, she turned her head to the left and looked at the shorter girl and she fell behind. Casey and Harriet were yards in miles in front of the other girls now and they were so close to the finishing line. Harriet could here Casey's deep breathes as she caught up just in time.

The other girls were also catching up, but not by much. The two girls crossed the finish line right at the same time and looked over at the clock, mimicking each other's actions perfectly. When they saw the time on the clock their heads shot round to look at each other and they throw their arms around each other.

Evan banged on the metal fencing around the seats and smiled. He was proud of his girlfriend and his friend. Harriet's stomach erupted in butterflies as Casey jumped up and down, arms still wrapped around Harriet.

Briggs was going crazy but Harriet wasn't focusing on his words and never heard was he was saying as Casey let go of her. She was ecstatic. Part of her wished she had beat Casey but the other part of her was happy they were sharing this moment.

Casey and Harriet looked off into the stands to look for Doug and Elsa. However, neither of them were there. Only Evan was cheering the girls on. Casey rested her arms on her head and Harriet just looked upset. 'Look what we just did and they didn't even see it.'
