Chapter 5: Reactions

Alex POV

I held Brinley in my arms while she stared up at me with bright brown eyes. She smiled, playing with the ends of my hair.

"Almost ready Alex?" Alice called from the door.

"No," I looked up, "I haven't changed her yet."

Alice rolled her eyes playfully, walking to the closet to pick out clothes.

I laid her gently on the bed, and grabbed a diaper.

She fussed a little, desperate for my attention. I changed her diaper, and threw her pjs in the hamper.

I put the onesie with the ruffles on the butt on her, and a thick jacket to protect her from the La Push wind.

I picked Brinley up, and stood admiring her. It's been two days since she was born and I still haven't gotten over her.

"Alex?" Alice called, "Are you even listening to me?"

"what?" I said concentrating on her this time.

She groaned in frustration, "I have her car seat and her diaper bag in the living room. The pack doesn't know your coming, Emily gathered them together."

Alice squealed in excitement, but suddenly stopped. I looked up from my baby, she had annoyance listed on her face, with a little disgust.

"What is it?" I asked.

"You'll find out soon enough," she encouraged me to leave.

I walked down the stairs carefully, eyes still on Brinley.

She yawed, and groaned a little. Her face turned red and she started screaming.

That's right. She screams at the top of her little lungs if she wants something.

The loud noise made Seth jump up from his spot on the couch, he rushed to my side.

"What does she want?!?" he panicked.

"Can you get me a bottle?" I asked trying to stay calm.

He was gone in a flash, boy am I lucky to have him.

He put the bottle in the screaming girls mouth and she drank happily.

"Always wants food," He mumbled.

I laughed at him. If she's anything like me he's gonna be in trouble.

I fed her the bottle, occasionally checking the score of the game on the tv.

"Ready?" Seth asked when she finished.

The cullens left to hunt so it was just us in the house.

"No," I felt the waterworks start.

"Baby, whats wrong?" Seth sat next to me, rubbing my back as I cried.

"I don't wanna share her," I honestly cried out.

He chuckled a little, "She's all ours baby, after we leave you can have her back."

I sniffled a little, shrugging my shoulders. My hormones had me as a mess, I couldn't decide the previous day what to dress her in, not wanting to share her.

I strapped her in her seat. She screamed of course, she wanted me to hold her.

She cried and screamed the whole way there, 25 minutes of a deafening scream. When we pulled in I went to her door and took her right out of the seat.

Seth grabbed the diaper bag and car seat, and walked to the door. he opened it for me,

"After you m'lady"

i kissed his cheek and walked in, the whole pack was gathered at the table. They just finished dinner.

"Alex!" Jacob said getting up.

"Baby!!" Quil and Embry got out of their seats, pushing Jacob and rushing to my side.

I slipped her jacket off, holding her in a cradle.

Everyone stared at seth and I, waiting for an introduction of their newest family member.

"Everyone," Seth said smiling down at me, "This is Brinley Sue Clearwater,"

They cheered and said their congratulations.

Then the worst part, people wanted to hold MY baby.

Embry was the first to ask, I hesitated
but handed her over.

He held her gently, and she stared to me pouting her little lip.

"Hey Brinley, I'm Embry," he said making her look up at him.

Then he was frozen, his jaw dropped, his eyes stared deeply into Brinleys.

I knew exactly what happened as soon as it happened. This is what Alice saw.

Embry Call imprinted on MY baby.

BABY.

MY as in MINE.

The anger bubbled up and my breathing rate increased.

"Embry....." my voice was stiff.

Seth was off with Jacob, showing him something in the garage.

Embry slowly looked to me with big frightened eyes.

"Alex," he started, "I-I can't c-control it, I-I don't know what h-happened i j-just" he stuttered.

My fists were clenched and my jaw hardened.

"Alex calm down its okay," Seth came in as everyone stopped to stare, "You can have her when we get back,"

"He imprinted on her!" I nearly yelled, throwin my hands up in frustration.

"What?" Seth suddenly became as mad as I was.

He stiffly looked at Embry, his nostrils flared and he started to shake.

I quickly grabbed Brinley, backing as far away as I could.

Seth grabbed Embry by the shirt collar and dragged him outside. He phased and roared angrily at Embry, who looked terrified in his human form.

Embry suddenly became mad, phasing as well. They spit and growled at each other for a couple of minutes, then Seth suddenly left.

"What happened?" I demanded Embry when he returned.

Emily took Brinley from my arms, and I blocked Embry from moving.

"What? u-uh nothing," He stuttered again.

"Embry I said what happened," I said more aggressively.

"Alex can I at least put some shorts on?" he said blushing.

I realized that he was standing stark naked in front of the girls and I.

I rolled my eyes and Sam threw shorts in.

"Sam?" Embry said, "A little help?"

"You're on your own Embry," Sam said leaving the house.

"He got mad that I stood up for myself and he left," Embry lazily said.

"Mad about what?" I cut in.

He looked at me frustrated and exausted.

"Embry this is MY baby," I explained, "You're gonna tell me everything that happened right now or you can say goodbye to your imprint,"

Being a mother brought out a whole new side of me. It made me demanding and crazy.

But for sure being a mom has been the best thing that's happened to me.
