Embry POV (supriseeee)
The day I first laid eyes on her, she was the most adorable human I'd ever seen. Her brown eyes flashed to mine as I held her, and my world was suddenly circling her.
Brinley, her precious name fit her so well. It was pretty unfortunate I'd have to wait until she's older to be with her, but I was willing to wait.
I was willing to wait because I know that some day, it will be worth it. It would be worth it because I have all this time to guide her, be there for her and learn her true personality.
She's the sweetest candy in the store, the sassiest girl in the school, the most lovable puppy in the shelter.
It didn't take me long to realize I'd need to step in Seths place. In my opinion, he doesn't deserve any part of her life. Even spending time stepping in for him, I got closer to Alex. Alex didn't deserve this.
Alex fought for herself, she fought so her child would have a normal life despite the more than likely chance of her shifting into a werewolf. Alex kept a smile on her face for Brinley, and I owe her so much for that.
As happy as Alex looked, she was drained. She was completely drained of sleep from the screaming Brinley. Also, the person fate had basically sewn into her life was gone and she had no way of communicating.
I tried my best to help her, but I had Seths shifts and they were exhausting.
But now that he came back, the air Alex and I had formed together for Brinley changed. Now it's, at times, thick and awkward. Like there's something missing.
Alex dressed her in a little jumpsuit, that made her tan back peek through.
Brin came running out to show me, it was the jumpsuit her mom and I picked out together. I opened my arms, engulfing her in a hug.
"Bear hug," she said squeezing my neck and shoulders.
I pretend bear hugged her, lightly enough for her.
"Morning sunshine," I smiled.
"I wanna go to the shell beach again," she said, sitting next to me on the couch.
Seth sat across the room, glancing down at Brinley. He stared at her, which made me uncomfortable but he was her father so I ignored it.
"Okay," I said.
She watched the tv, and I looked down at her as she braided her dolls hair. Suddenly she snapped her head in my direction, gasping.
"Em, I just forgot," she said turning her head away from Seth, "I have to show you something in my room."
She grabbed my hand, not waiting for the obvious answer. Shutting her door behind her she made me sit at the little table and chair in the corner.
"Can we go without my mommy and daddy?" she asked laying her head in her hands.
"I guess, but why?" I asked her concerned.
"I want mommy and daddy to love each other again, but I don't want me in the way," she pouted slightly.
"Brin, you are not in the way," I reassured her, "You are the most important thing to both of them, they sometimes forget to love each other."
"Why can't mommy and daddy be like you and me?" she asked confused.
This made me think of an idea, "I don't really know, but maybe I can make them go on a date while we go to the beach."
She smiled at me after I said my idea, "And I can bring them both pretty shells!"
I agreed with her and told her to go by Seth so I could talk to Alex. She pranced down the hallway, and said hi to Seth and I smiled at my girl.
I walked into Alex's room, where she was fixing her hair by the mirror.
"Alex. I'm rough talking Seth and making you two go out today. I'll take Brinley to the shell beach."
"Embry, I appreciate you trying to help," she said sighing, "But it's something Seth and I have to do ourselves."
I ignored her, "Get ready for a date," I said and walked out.
In the living room Brinley smirked at me as Seth looked to my direction.
"Seth," I said, "A word outside?"
He muttered a 'sure' and got up. Outside I turned to him.
"Seth Clearwater, a three year old asked me a very relevant question this fine morning. Something alone the lines of 'Why doesn't mommy love daddy like you love me?' and that got me thinking. I spend so much time with Brin, maybe to fix you guys you need some alone time. So Seth, stop apologizing and start making it up like you said you were gonna. I'll take Brin, you take Alex out on a date and have fun. Because believe it or not, Brinley is suffering from whatever awkwardness is going on with you two so fix it," I demanded, "For your imprint and mine,"
Seth surprisingly nodded, "You're right. Thanks,"
I nodded and helped Brinley put her hair up, and put on sunscreen. Then I picked her up, and we were off. I answered the million questions she had to ask me and giggled when she giggled and finally we made it.
I sat on a rock, organizing all the shells my sweet imprint brought me. Watching as she dragged big ones down the shore to show me.
But that's when I realized that everything would be okay, because the smile her face displayed was the kind of enjoyment that was so rare it was beautiful.
And also, that's when I realized she wasn't what I was looking for.
She's more.
