Days turn into weeks of Jaehyun just going through the motions. He still took care of Taeyong, as much as he could but Taeyong was gaining his independence. With his therapy and friends and families support he's feeling like a whole new person, a person with a gaping fucking hole in his heart but he deserves it. He did it himself. He can see that Jaehyun puts on a brave face for him and tries really hard to be the friend he needs him to be.
"Hyunnie." He says softly tugging at Jaehyun's shirt sleeve. Jaehyun turns to see Taeyong looking sad and pale.
"Are you ok? Yongie, you look awful what's wrong?" Taeyong just shrugs.
"I'm fine. I just can't help but feel like I'm hurting you more and more and I'm so sorry and I'm so fucked up for thinking that you would even want to be my friend." Jaehyun does his best to decipher the sentence as Taeyong was sobbing and everything was a little muffled.
"I'm fine Taeyong, I'm getting through this ok and.." Taeyong shakes his head no.
"No, no your not. You haven't even told anyone have you? You need to go to your friends and cry, mourn the loss of what we were so that we can become what we are meant to be." Jaehyun shakes his head.
"You need space from me Jae, please stop coming over. Don't answer every time I text or call." Jaehyun looks away, breath ragged.
"What the fuck Taeyong? You said you wanted to be friends. That's what friends do! You say you don't doubt how much I love you, but if you knew? You wouldn't break me over and over again. How heartless are you? I thought I knew you but this is a whole new level. I was doing fine, I didn't need space. I think if you were being honest, it's you that doesn't want me around!" Taeyong backs away, his fear of getting hit is kicking in and Jaehyun notices so he tries to calm himself.
"Sorry for raising my voice. It's ok, I'll stay away from you." He slams his locker and walks away. leaving campus in the middle of school on a game day means he won't be playing basketball tonight but he could care less. He was surprised when he made the team and at first didn't want to play so he could focus on Taeyong getting better but he caved in eventually.
He doesn't know where to go he just couldn't be there, this was supposed to be the best year of his life, he waited so long to be reunited with the one person he has loved since forever ago and always will. He's shattered, it hurt bad the first night but he was beginning to be numb to it then Taeyong had to twist the knife.
He walks the streets aimlessly, emotions going from complete devastation to complete anger. He knows Taeyong went through some fucked up shit but he was there for him one hundred percent the whole time and deserves to be treated better.
When he finally makes it home he goes straight to his room while his mom is yelling about him missing school and the coach being angry. Again, he could care less. He quickly calls Yuta and tells him everything. He's never told their story before but he finally shared every last detail with him.
"I'm going to a party Friday with Sicheng, you should come. There will be lots of beer and people. Find someone new to like." Jaehyun scoffs.
"Yeah I'm sure if the situation was reversed you would do the same." He rolls his eyes as Yuta picks up on his sarcasm and nods in agreement.
"Yeah I know. I just want everyone to be happy." Jaehyun sighs.
"I know he doesn't want me around and don't get me wrong I'm really hurt but I could never stay angry with him and I want you guys to continue to watch out for him and be his friend. He needs people around to support him, and as much as I wanted to be that person he doesn't." He cries some more as Yuta does his best to console him before Jaehyun decides to hang up and go to bed.
He doesn't get much sleep considering he spends most of the night trying to figure out what went wrong.
He goes to school the next day and receives lecture after lecture, all afternoon about skipping. It's later in the day when he goes to see his coach and smooth things over. When he gets to his office though, there seems to be a line so he sits in the chair next to a white haired boy.
"Hi, I'm Jungwoo." The boy says turning to Jaehyun.
"Hi, Jaehyun. Are you new here? You look familiar." He nods.
"Just transferred from a neighboring school, I know a few people here and I want to be on the team." Jaehyun nods and welcomes him.
"I'm fairly new to the school and really new to the team and I've already fucked it up. Im just here to see if they still want me." Jungwoo laughs making Jaehyun playfully frown.
"I love it, I'm sitting by the school rebel." He jokes making Jaehyun chuckle.
"Not a rebel just a sad, twice dumped senior in high school, living his best life." This makes Jungwoo cackle now. Jaehyun feigns a look of offense.
"I'm happy to see my misery is your entertainment." He says pouty. Jungwoo makes a pouty face back at him but can't keep a straight face.
"Sorry, I just thought maybe we should start a club. I actually transferred because of my ex, but that's a story for another time." Jaehyun hums and pats his shoulder.
"The first official meeting is this Friday, my friend invited me to a party to get over my heartache. We can start there, and you can meet more people. What do you say?" Jungwoo holds his hand out like he wants to shake the others and it only takes a second for him to catch on and grab his hand.
"I think this is the start of something beautiful. Yes, let's drink our sorrows away together." Jaehyun chuckles and lets go just as the coach opens the door and invites Jungwoo inside. He doesn't miss the side eye the coach gives Jaehyun which makes him giggle and turn to him to point. Jaehyun just smiles and nods in acknowledgment.
He isn't really sure he needs new friends at the moment but he likes this guy so far.
