"Are we gonna stop soon?" Sam questioned, turning off his phone.

"Um," Bucky glanced at the time, cursing himself when he saw that it was ten at night, "Uh....yeah. Yeah, we'll stop to get some food."

Sam sat up a little straighter, looking at the road, "Can we stop for the night? I mean we're already in the Ukraine, and if we keep driving tonight, we'll arrive at Coe's place in the middle of the day."

Bucky went quiet, tapping his fingers. He glanced at the next exit.

"But we don't have to, I'm not really tired or anything. So if you're good, I'm good."

Bucky sighed, getting off the highway, "No you're right. We just have to find a place to lay low. Coe could have people anywhere."

"Okay," Sam agreed, leaning back in his chair as Bucky drove into a small town. His gaze shifted to the buildings beside him, which were a run down but littered with lights and decorations nonetheless. He saw a couple of people walking down the street, some in pairs and some in groups, but none alone. He didn't fail to notice how no one he had seen looked anything but content, laughing or talking with no cares in the world. He loved it here.

They didn't exchange anymore words until Bucky pulled into a shabby inn, stopping the car and getting out. He leaned over to look Sam in the eye, "Lock the door. Don't do anything stupid."

Sam waited for a few moments, scrolling through Twitter as he did so when a tweet caught his eye.

@captainamericaishot: Sam Wilson is Captain America now? Guess I have to change my handle now #bringsteveback

Sam curiously clicked on the hashtag, being taken aback by the number of tweets. Yes, he had seen several hate comments and tweets, and he had expected them, but he'd be lying if he said they weren't getting to him. He knew that no one could replace Steve, and he wasn't trying to, so why were people still so awful?

@benji2364: Am I the only one who thinks Captain America needs to lose a little weight? No hate, just concerned for his safety in battle #bringsteveback

@karla4561: Shouldn't Sam Wilson be Captain Africa or something? #johnwalkerdidnothingwrong #bringsteveback

@samwilsonsucks: We're letting this fat fuck represent America? He shouldn't even be here #bringsteveback

Sam quickly closed out the app, spotting Bucky on his way back. He forced a smile when Bucky opened the door, "Hey, uh, any openings?"

"Yeah, they have one left, made for two people. We can settle in, and then go grab something to eat," Bucky suggested, opening the back door to grab both of the duffle bags. He hauled them on his shoulders, pausing when he saw Sam scrolling through his phone, "Or not if you don't want to."

"Hm? Oh, yeah. Yeah, that's fine. We can do that," Sam got out as well, "Where's my bag? I thought I-,"

Bucky lifted the bag up, making Sam flush, "Oh. Right. Sorry, I can carry it."

"It's fine," Bucky threw the inn key to Sam, going against his better judgement, "Are you?"

"Yeah. Just some, personal stuff," Sam sighed, heading inside.

"Upstairs on the right."

Sam listened, taking note of how home-like the inn was and wishing he had stayed home too. He couldn't sleep knowing people were struggling, but he missed the comfort of home.

"I texted Riley in the car," Sam mentioned as he unlocked the door, "They're stopping for the night too. It's too bad using a plane is too dangerous right now."
