"But Ella you have to come!" I whined but it was no use, I was going to have to face the festival alone.
"Scar you know how sorry I am, plus I can give someone else my ticket, can't I? What about Jess?"
I sighed, "I don't think Jess will be allowed though! And I literally have no other friends!"
"Oi! Yes you do. Plus even if Jess can't go, Charlie and Jack are still going! And I swear you said we would've been sharing a tent with them?"
"That was then! I can't share a tent with just them!"
"Call Jess then you twat!"
Grumpily, I picked up my phone. The concept of sharing a tent with the boys and only the boys only made me shudder, so I dialled Jess' number as fast as possible.
Thankfully, after the third ring, she picked up.
"Scarlett Wilson it is 7.30 in the morning, what the hell do you think you're doing?!"
Shit...I hadn't checked the time. And Jess was most definitely NOT a morning person.
"Jessie I'm in the middle of a crisis that only you can fix!"
"And what if I say no?"
"Then I guess I'll just find someone else to take Ella's place at Glastonbury festival and find someone else to share a tent with Jack, CHARLIE and me..."
I pretended to hang up the phone.
"SCAR WAIT NO PLEASE LET ME COME YOU KNOW HOW BADLY I WANTED TO PLUS IT WASN'T MY FAULT THE TICKETS SOLD OUT!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE"
"I guess because you asked so nicely, I can give you Ella's ticket."
"OHMYGOD YES I WON'T LET YOU DOWN SIR NO SIREEE"
"Umm Jess? You do realise you aren't auditioning for XFactor don't you? And that I'm not a sir?"
"Got a bit carried away..." Came the whispered reply.
I laughed, "Don't you always? Right, now go check with your parents right now."
I could hear Jess drop her phone and run downstairs to ask her parents.
About 10 minutes later whilst Ella was painting my toenails and I was painting my nails, a screaming noise started coming from my phone.
"Jess' back then," I said as Ella giggled. I picked up the phone and put it to my ear.
"THEY SAID YES OHMYGOD THEY SAID YES I THINK I'M GOING TO CRY, OR FAINT, OR MAYBE BOTH"
"Jess! Calm down woman! Look we're leaving tomorrow morning, so it would probably be easier if you just stayed over at mine, bring your whole wardrobe and camping essentials and we can order a dominoes tonight and maybe see if Charlie wants to come round and have food with us tonight?"
"YES YES PERFECT!"
"Right ok, so can you get to mine for 6? I'll text Charlie...."
"No Scar! Please let me do it!!"
I sighed, "Ok ok, but no funny business."
"I promise. I'm so excited!!"
"Whatever loser, laters."
I hung up the phone and turned to El who was halfway through her second coat of silver nail polish on my toes.
"She's going to invite Jack isn't she?"
"Mmmhmm" Ella spoke with the nail polish brush in her mouth. "But maybe it would be good for you to see Jack? Plus isn't your mum going out tonight? Maybe it would be good to see both of the boys tonight, especially to sort out sleeping arrangements." Ella laughed as I gave her the evils.
"Right come on then twat head, let's go choose you some outfits for this festival!"
I began to move from my comfy spot I'd made on the sofa when the doorbell rang.
"Mum?" Ella asked and raised her eyebrows.
I bit my lip nervously as I went to answer the door.
Sure enough, it was mum, looking happy yet tired.
"Aw Scar! I'm so pleased to see you!"
"You too mum" I mumbled as she hugged me.
"How are you then my beautiful girl? Is that Ella I hear? Ella darling I'm home!"
"Hi mum!" Ella beamed as she walked into the kitchen.
"So...what trouble have you got yourself into whilst I've been away?"
"I....well..." I choked on air as I had a realisation of just how hard this would be.
"Spit it out then you silly sausage!"
I looked to Ella for support and she moved from her seat at the table to stand next to me. It wasn't much but it helped.
"Mum. I have something to tell you."
"Ok?"
"Maybe it would be better if you sat down."
"Why? Have you broken something? How valuable are we talking?"
Halfway through her questions I stopped her.
"MUM, it's Grizzabella."
"What about her? I haven't seen her since I got back actually, where is she?"
"I'm so so sorry mum..." I gulped as two fat tears fell down my face.
"Yesterday, when I came home, she was there, on the driveway, at first I thought she was asleep. But then I saw the way she was lying, and she wasn't moving at all.."
Mum just sat there, silent. Her eyes fogged with tears.
"W-w-where is she?"
"Ella came over and we've wrapped her in a towel, in a cardboard box and she's in the shed now."
A couple of tears rolled down mum's cheeks as she tried to compose herself.
"Right ok, well I guess we're going to have to sort out her tomorrow, I would do it now but it's too dark."
I could sense the tone of hurt in her voice as she busied herself tidying up the mess Ella and I had made.
"Right girlies! Who's for dominoes? My treat."
Ella and me exchanged glances before hugging her.
~
About 2 minutes after 6 Jess arrived beaming like an idiot.
"HEY SCAR" She screamed before jumping on me.
"Hey Jessie," I mumbled yet again. People have seriously got to stop jumping on me when they see me.
"Right so, I've invited the boys to come over for about 7.30-8.00 so knowing Charlie they'll be here for 8.00-8.30."
Jess began to grin at the thought of Charlie.
"Ok, I guess that's ok, but I guess then I better help you pack!"
"Hey! I can totally pack for myself!"
"No Jessie, you can pack for a holiday to Spain. This is packing for a festival, your first proper festival."
Jess grumbled a few words under her breath.
"Well I guess I could let you pack for yourself, and then impress Charlie with whatever you can put together. Bearing in mind, I know what Charlie likes...."
I bit my lip in curiosity as to whether or not my plan had worked.
"Ok! Ok! You can help me!"
"I'm going to need a bit more than that young Jessie..."
"What do you mean?"
"I'm thinking, 'Please please Scarlett, my favourite person, who I love so much?!' Something like that at least." I winked as Jess repeated the statement.
"Right ok then Jessie, we better get your shit together, and I might, repeat MIGHT let you borrow one or two items out of my wardrobe."
Jess smiled before running into the guest room where I'd chucked her stuff in with mine.
~
Sure enough, at approximately 8.15pm, my doorbell rang. Mum had gone out to an art exhibition and a meal with my stepdad, so we had the house to ourselves.
I opened my door with an element of dread, but that quickly washed away when I only found Charlie stood on my doorstep.
"Jack's just on the phone so don't act too relieved." Charlie winked before walking past me to put the kettle on.
"2 sugars?" He yelled from the kitchen.
"You know it!" I called back.
It was at that point I realised I was standing in my doorway, looking like quite possibly the biggest weirdo.
That was when Jack appeared from round the corner.
"Hey Scar,"
"Mmmhmm"
"Can we talk?"
"Mmmhmm"
"Are you just going to say that?"
"Mmmhmm"
"Fine, you left the other day before I could explain. Originally, yes I did pick Ellie, but that was when the whole Instagram photo thing came out. And that text was a reply from when I first picked Ellie, her phone broke you see, so that text was from weeks back but only just sent. I swear to you Scarlett Wilson, everything I said the other day at the park, everything I did, I meant it."
"Mmmhmm" I wasn't giving in that easily.
"Right there's only one thing for it Miss Wilson. Scarlett do you want me to kiss you?"
"Mmmhmm, WAIT NO"
"See I know you girl."
My body seized as he called me 'Girl' and an image of Henry flooded my head. I needed to say something, anything.
"Maybe you do, maybe you don't."
"What's that supposed to mean?" Jack's expression grew puzzled.
"Nothing nothing at all."
"Umm Scarlett?"
"Mmmhmm"
"Are we ok again?" He shifted from one foot to the other and wouldn't meet my eye.
"Yes Jack Brown, we're fine. I can't stay mad at my right hand man? You're my brother from another mother man!"
It was now Jack's turn to tense at the friendzone bomb I dropped on him.
"Brother? Nothing more?"
"Nope sorry, that ship sailed. I still couldn't live without you and know you can't live without me. So give me a hug and go make me a cup of tea, because you're the only person in the entire who can make my perfect cup of tea!"
"Fine, fine Miss Wilson. But just so you know, I'm not giving up without a fight." He said the second part of the sentence as he skipped into my house before I could reply.
What was that supposed to mean? Knowing Jack, this wasn't the end...
"Scarlett! Your tea's ready!" I slumped back into the house to find the three of them sat around the table, Jess and Charlie clutching their cups of tea, and Jack holding my cup of tea in one hand and a Dominoes menu in the other.
"Here you go beaut," Jack grinned as I blushed at the recognition of him using my old nickname.
"Thank you," I grinned back and watched his cheeks too turn a shade of red.
"Right, you too! Let's order, I'm starving!" Jess exclaimed and Charlie nodded.
"Fine, I'll order." Jack said before picking up my house phone and dialling the number.
"Hi mate. Yep can we please get two large pizza's, one pepperoni and one ham and pineapple, as well as two medium pizza's, one ham and pineapple and one chicken and pesto."
Jack winked as he guessed my order. It wasn't until that action when I realised I hadn't actually said what I wanted. Unintentionally, I smiled.
"Oh and also can I have one bottle of coke and one of diet coke? Brilliant thanks mate."
Jess and Charlie sat on their phones whilst Jack finished up with the pizza delivery. But I couldn't seem to snap out of my trance. My head was filled with the image of Henry, but slowly the image was being blurred and am image of Jack was filling my head. I rubbed my forehead to try and erase both images. 'What will happen will happen' I thought to myself.
"Scar, you ok?" I jumped as Jack placed his hands on my shoulders.
"Yeah, I'm fine, little thirsty.." I rubbed my throat and fake coughed to add to my act.
Jack laughed, "Oi! What did your last slave die of?"
"He's not dead yet." I winked.
The evening was going well, Jess and Charlie were getting closer, Jack and I were reminiscing. I'd almost forgotten about the fact that Henry hadn't text me all night.
Almost.
Just as I was overthinking, my phone pinged.
"Who's that?" Jack went to grab my phone.
"My brother!" I gave Jess the 'It's Henry back me up on the brother story'
"Aw! How was his trip to Africa?"
I grinned as I unlocked my phone,
"He said he had an amazing time aw! He says hi guys,"
They all chorused for me to say they said hi, and I finally got round to reading the message.
Henry: hey baby, I'm sorry I haven't messaged you :( Jack said he was coming to yours and I don't know I guess I panicked...he said he was going to get you back or something?"
Me: hey hey it's fine :) you panicked did you? ;) oh and Jack did try and 'win' me back....
Henry: and?...:/
Me: I said no way :')
Henry: I bloody love you
I very nearly dropped my phone again.
