"Woohoo! Buckle up kiddies! Daddy's putting the hammer down!" Robby grinned his grin and I smiled the identical one back.
We all piled into Robby's tiny Peugeot, Jessie in the front and Charlie, Jack and me in the back. To be honest I wasn't overly happy about being stuck in the middle of the boys for the whole journey, but I guess that's the price I must pay for not calling shotgun.
The journey itself was over 2 hours but Robby managed to make it in under, despite having to stop 3 times for Jess to go to toilet. That girl can pee for England I swear...
We made it to the festival site and whilst Robby went to collect our tickets from the box office, we were all sat in the car with the air conditioning on in the vain attempt to cool ourselves down. Jess and Charlie were talking and Jack was texting someone so I took this spare time to re apply some glitter.
"Ooh don't forget to give me some!" Jack joked not thinking I would actually put a fair amount of glitter down one side of his cheek!
"Oh for gods sake Scar! Well now you're going to have to to the other side." He winked as I giggled and applied glitter to the other side of his face.
"Who are you texting anyway?" I asked curiously.
"Hmm? Oh just my cousin, Henry." Jack shrugged as if it meant nothing to me.
"Aw that's nice, you two are close then?" I already knew the answer so why was I torturing myself with the question?
"Yep, he's like my brother."
I smiled maybe a little too hard and falsely before popping my makeup back in my rucksack.
"Right all done! You look beautiful babe."
"Not as beautiful as you." .
Jack squeezed my nose before going back to texting Henry.
Slyly, in case i had a message from Henry, I checked my phone.
Nothing.
I text Jess,
Me: Do you think I should message Henry first?
Jess: have you before?
Me: no never :')
Jess: then do it! There's a first time for everything ;)
I attempted to hold in my laughter but it was no use.
"Something funny?" Jack asked.
"Just a funny photo." I lied which then set Jess off.
"You girls, honeslty! I don't know whether I'm more excited or terrified to see the pair of you drunk!" Charlie exclaimed.
"Hey! What makes you think I'll get drunk?" Jess asked.
"Jessie, come on, we all know what a lightweight you are." I stated making all the others excluding Jess laugh.
"Whatever." Jessie sulked.
"Right come on children! Let's get our festival on!" Robby came back to the car flashing our tickets.
I rolled my eyes, despite being the greatest brother of all time. Robby did have his embarrassing moments. An example of this could be the Santa outfit incident...but let's not speak about that, ever, ever again.
~
About half an hour later, we'd unloaded the car and were queuing to get into the festival camping area.
"Is it just me or are we going backwards in the queue more than we are forwards?" A puzzled expression grew on Jessie's face.
"I think that's just you babe..." I raised my eyebrows quizzically.
"It must be the heat, hang on I'll tip my water bottle over your head." Charlie went to reach for his water bottle when I grabbed his arm.
"I don't care if the girl is seeing flying donkeys because of the heat. There is no way in hell I am letting you ruin her makup." I narrowed my eyebrows at Charlie until he dropped his water bottle and put his hands up with a mixture of fear and sarcasm.
I broke the eye contact between us and looked up to see Robby and Jack had moved on in the queue leaving the three of us, with all of the bags.
"Jack mate! Come back and help us with everything!" Charlie called to Jack who nodded and walked back towards us.
I was back combing Jess' hair more when he came up behind me, said nothing, picked me up, flung me over his shoulder and walked back to where Robby was standing.
Jess and Charlie stood there speechless.
Jack turned back around and winked.
"What? You said help you, so I did. You should be thanking me to be honest, I've just removed the heaviest thing from that pile."
I hit Jack on the back which then led to him tightening his grip around my waist.
"You're not getting away that easily, beaut."
I felt my cheeks burning as he slapped my bum playfully. Had Jack not understood what I meant when I said 'just friends'. His current actions suggested otherwise...
~
We finally made it into the festival and went to find a place to camp. Jack refused to put me down the whole time until we made it to our chosen camping spot where he then dropped me on the grass and jumped on top of me. I was not a happy girl.
We had put our tents all in a circle with a camp fire in the middle. Robby had gone off to find his girlfriend and his mates to set up his tent. I got out of the giant tent Jess, Charlie, Jack and me were sharing and went to sit round the camp fire whilst I waited for the others to finish unpacking. Some of our friends had turned up to pitch their tents in our little circle including Emma and Dorothy and Jack and Charlie's mates, Zach and Max. Zach nodded at me as I sat down on a camping chair and Max, upon looking me up and down, winked. I shifted uncomfortably and didn't notice Jack come out of our tent and sit beside me, quickly followed by Jess and Charlie, looking flustered.
"Yuck!" I scrunched up my nose. "Already? We've only been here five minutes!"
"What?" Jess looked at me puzzled, "No! You bloody twat, Charlie got stuck in his compartment of the tent and so I had to help him get out."
I looked over at Charlie, trying to hold in my laughter, but I saw how red he had gone and I couldn't help it.
"It's not funny!" Charlie exclaimed, "I thought I was going to die in there! I did explain to Jess to just go on without me and leave me there to die, but I guess she just loves me too much."
Uh-oh...
Guess that was Charlie's payback to Jess for telling his embarrassing story.
I turned and looked at Jess along with everyone else.
She too, had gone red.
"Right!" Jack said, breaking the awkward silence. "We still have a whole day ahead of us, and I don't know about you, but I'm hungry."
We all murmured in agreement and got to our feet.
"Hang on a sec beaut..." Jack grabbed my arm and I stopped.
"Just so you know, I've seen the way Max's been looking at you, but he won't go anywhere near you if you don't want..."
I smiled unintentionally, "And how do you propose that he stays aways?..."
I wiggled my eyebrows in curiosity as to what Jack's great plan was.
"Because I'm going to do things like this...."
Before I could even process his sentence, Jack had lifted me up onto his back and was carrying me out to join the others.
I laughed as Max took one look at the two of us together laughing and shrugged his shoulders disappointedly before going to talk to Dororthy.
I leant in to Jack and whispered "Thank you" in his ear which then caused him to squeeze my legs around his waist tighter.
I took this time to look at all of my friends and the little gang we had.
There was Jack with me on his back, Jess and Charlie on our left, occasionally brushing hands with each other slyly until Charlie sighed and picked Jess up and put her on his back.
Emma and Zach on our right and Dorothy and Max next to them. I was with my friends, and we were spending the whole weekend together having the time of our lives.
It was decided, this was going to be the perfect weekend.
"Jack?" An unknown whiny voice filled my ears.
Jack stopped and turned with me still on his back meaning I turned with him.
He very nearly dropped me.
"Ellie?"
That's my perfect weekend ruined.
