THE NEXT MORNING I wake up and realise where I am, quickly jumping up out of bed. I run to Sarah's room but she's already out. I fall back onto her bed, thinking everything that happened last night go over and over in my head. Rafe's words being repeated in my head.

I end up falling asleep for another hour and wake up with a shock.
I pull my co-ord off from last night and pull on an oversized tee, before heading downstairs to get something to eat.

I walk into the kitchen, grabbing some waffles out of the cupboard.
If there's one thing about the Cameron's house, it's that they're always stocked with the best snacks.

I'm pouring on some maple syrup when Rafe walks in. I avoid his eyes, focusing on my waffles. I put the maple syrup back and take a seat at the kitchen island, biting into my waffles.
"Eve" He says, walking over to me.
I'm still chewing as I answer him, "Rafe."
I swallow. "Can we just forget everything last night ever happened? You go back to ignoring me and saying your sarcastic little comments like every other summer?" I blurt out.
Rafe stares ahead for a few seconds before answering me.
"Yeah. Cool." He says bluntly, grabbing a waffle from my plate as he walks out.
"Hey!" I shout at him.

I walk out to the pool where Sarah's lay on a sun lounger.
"What was that about? You and Rafe seem to be talking a lot recently" She asks me, sitting upright on her elbows.
"He's just being a dickhead to me this year for some reason. Think he's sick of seeing my face all the time" I shrug my shoulders at her.
"Right. What's the plan for today?" She smiles at me.
"About that. I think I'll get my stuff to go back home today. I'm ready to face my dad again" I explain to her.
"Okay, whatever you want. You're always welcome here though. And there's a beach party tonight which you're coming to I won't take no for an answer."  She says, smirking.
"Fine." I roll my eyes before pulling my tee off. I jump up off of my sun lounger and dive into the pool.

After around an hour of swimming and lounging in the sunshine I head upstairs for a shower. I bump into Rafe on my way up the stairs, I'm still wet from the pool, feeling the droplets run down my skin. He looks me up and down, before looking back up at my face. He bites down on his bottom lip, and I'm suddenly remembering how it felt to feel those lips against mine.
I push past him, making my way to the bathroom.

Once I've finished showering I head to Sarah's room and pack all my belongings into my bag.
Before I leave Sarah's room, I go in her bedside drawers and pull out 'The Great Gatsby' , the book we were assigned to read over the summer. I plop it on top of her pillow and stick a note on top saying 'READ ME XXX' as I know she's already forgot about it.

I decide to pop my head into Rafe's room before leaving. He's changing his shirt as I walk in.
"Oops sorry should've knocked." I laugh nervously backing away.
"Nothing you haven't seen before" He smirks at me, and any awkwardness I felt was there before seems to melt and I have the old Rafe back.
"Just letting you know I'm gonna go back home today. See how it goes." I smile at him.
"Okay." He says, staring at me for a little while.
"Okay." I answer back to him.
Maybe I take the no awkwardness comment back..
I walk away before I do or say something I may regret, happy to have had the last word for once.

I finally reach my house after taking the long walk over the beach and use my keys to let myself in. I walk into the kitchen to see what food we have, but the fridge is empty except for bottles of beer, and the cupboards are pretty much empty. Note to self, go grocery shopping. I walk through to the living room but there's still no sign of my dad, I continue upstairs and drop my stuff down onto my bed.

I go over to my parents room, checking to see if my dad is actually home. When I step in, their blackout curtains are drawn. I creep over to the bed and find my dad asleep. I shake him lightly to wake him up.
"Dad." I whisper.
"Eve, you're back soon" He says, looking up at me.
"I've been gone for a couple days dad" I tell him.
"Oh. I must've been tired" He laughs to himself.
Both my mum and dad struggle with mental illnesses. My mum with bipolar disorder and my dad with depression.
"It's okay dad, I'm going to go grocery shopping now" I tell him.
"Ok chicken" He rolls back over, and I kiss him on the cheek before leaving.
