trigger warning- drug abuse

I GO TO FIND MY MUM while my dad lays passed out on the sofa.
'MUM' I shout over and over.
No sign of her.
I finally go to the kitchen to get a glass of water to calm myself down. A note is left on the fridge which reads
'gone away for a couple days. stay safe. love you baby, mum xx'
Along with some fifty dollar bills.
What a great start to the day.

My mum taking off with no explanation is nothing new here, but it always seems to catch me off guard.

I make my way up to my bedroom and pull on a baby blue bikini, a navy tank top and some jean shorts. Sarah won't mind me hanging out at her house for the next few days.

I slip on my birk clogs, grab a few fifty dollar bills and my skateboard before skating to the Cameron's house.

I knock when I arrive hoping for Sarah but instead Rafe opens the door.
He stares at me not saying anything.
"Is sarah here?" I ask, fiddling with my ring.
"No, she'll be back soon though" He answers me.
I walk through the door past Rafe, making my way to their back garden.

He follows behind me, sitting himself down onto one of the loungers next to me.
"What's up?" Rafe asks me.
"What do you mean?" I try to smile.
"I've known you long enough to know the difference between your real smile and a fake smile" He shrugs his shoulders at me.

When I don't answer he pulls out a small ziploc bag and a twenty dollar bill from his pocket.
"Rafe" I whisper.
"You want some?" He looks back at me.
"Rafe" I repeat.
He turns around and looks at me. After seeing the look on my face he slowly walks over to where I'm sat and places his hands in mine.
"Tell me." He whispers.

"My dad relapsed this morning." I hold back my tears.
His face drops and a tear escapes, I feel
Rafe wipe the tear away with the back of his thumb.
"I'm here." He tells me.
Those two words. All it takes is those two words for my heart to feel whole again.

An hour passes by of Rafe and I lounging around the pool and racing to see who can swim the length of the pool faster. I'm not sure if he let me win or not.
