Your POV

It had been about a year since Aaron and you got married, combining your two families of two into one family of four. It was one of the best days of your life, tying only with the day that (s/n) was born. The family you had now was perfect, but it all was about to change, as you had just found out you were pregnant.

The two of you haven't been trying for a baby; you both thought that the four of you were perfect, not needing anyone else.

On one hand you were excited that you were going to have Aaron's child, but you were also getting flashbacks from your last pregnancy. While (s/n) was your world, your pride and joy, the beginning of your pregnancy was not so great—escaping an abusive ex that threatened to kill your unborn child really makes for a scary pregnancy.

Aaron is different, you had to remind yourself to calm your racing heart. He will be so excited.

You had about three hours before you had to go and get the boys from school, so you rushed over to the store to pick up a few items.

By the time you got back home you had plenty of time to wrap the gift you were planning to gift Aaron as soon as he got home later that night. You didn't want to do anything too crazy, so you decided to buy a cute onesie that read: "of course I'm awesome, just look at my dad". It was super cheesy but also cute.

You placed it in the small white box and laid the positive pregnancy test on top of it before wrapping the gift in silver wrapping paper.

Hours later is was late evening. The boys had just finished their supper and were helping you with the dishes when Aaron walked through the front door.

"Dad!" Both of the boys shouted. Even though (s/n) had been calling Aaron "dad" ever since the two of you got married, it still made you fight back tears sometimes. It was so amazing to finally have a father figure around for (s/n)—and as far as you were concerned, Aaron was his dad.

Aaron hugged them tightly when they ran into his arms. "Hey, guys. How was your day at school?"

The boys could talk for hours and hours, especially when Aaron was gone for a few days because of a case, which happened to be the situation that day—he had been gone for three days. Aaron was hardly even given the chance to eat, let alone take a break for more than two seconds.

"Boys," you said once you were done with your food. "You've been keeping your dad so busy that I haven't gotten a chance to talk to him."

The two of them smiled sheepishly. "Sorry, mom," They both said. Though they were step-brothers they definitely seemed like twins sometimes. They ran off, leaving their dirty plates at the table.

Hey, as a mom you know that sometimes you win some and sometimes you loose some. You were willing to pick up their mess if they gave you some time to be with Aaron yourself.
