It had been a while since I had last herd my snake, so I was out in the corridor in the middle of lunch again, looking for it. I had told myself I wouldn't go down into the Chamber anymore since it was too risky, but I still needed to know what it was up to. I had asked father to confirm what type of beast it was, and he said it was called a Basilisk. I ha looked it up and sure enough, the book had said the Basilisk was a snake that could kill you just by looking into your eyes. That still didn't explain how it only petrified Ms. Norris, though.

Come, I hissed in Parseltongue quietly.

Where are you, master?

I internally groaned; it was still calling me master. I looked around to make sure the corridor was deserted, before I pulled out my wand.

Where are you? I asked, running my hand along the wall. I heard a little thump in the wall and pointed my wand at it. "Reducto!" I whispered quietly. I blasted a small hole in the wall, not big enough for it to come out of the wall though. The Basilisk showed its scaly face through the hole and attempted to shove its face through. No, no! You can't come through! Someone may see you! I told it in panic. It stopped and looked at me, sticking its tongue out in an attempt to lick my face. I let it lick my hand. I just wanted to tell you that I can't go down into the Chamber anymore, I said.

It was silent for a second, and then- Mudblood! It hissed dangerously. I smell a Mudblood!

My heartbeat sped up in panic. Someone was coming! I looked over my shoulder as footsteps began to approach, and gasped. I got up off my knees hurriedly and pointed my wand at the hole. "Reparo!" I whispered urgently. The hole fixed itself and I hurried into the shadows just as the boy from the Dueling Club, Justin, came walking down the corridor.

"Mr. Fletcher!"

I pushed myself harder against the dark stone wall as Nearly-Headless Nick, the ghost of Gryffindor, came gliding along. Justin turned to him and as soon as he looked at him he dropped to the floor. I stopped myself from gasping in alarm. Nearly-Headless Nick looked over to where Justin had and goes still, his mouth dropping open and his head falling to the side, attached to his neck by only a small amount of flesh.

I ran over to the pair and looked down at Justin. He was lying flat on his back with the same facial expression as Nearly-Headless Nick: petrified. I rushed over to the wall where I had fixed the hole, or thought I had. There was a tiny eye sized hole still there, and it was filled with a bright yellow eye. I groaned.

What are you doing?! Go back to the Chamber! Hurry before someone else comes!

Sorry master...

The eye disappears and I fixed the small hole before turning back to Justin and Nearly-Headless Nick. How did Justin not die? I understood Nearly-Headless Nick since he was already dead, but Justin. I observe the scene for a couple seconds more before it hits me. Justin didn't look the Basilisk directly in the eye! He looked at it through Nearly-Headless Nick! SO he was just petrified. That must've been the case for Ms. Norris too-

I stopped in the middle of my thoughts in alarm. More footsteps were coming down the corridor. I ran back into the shadows as Harry came speed walking down the corridor. He had a hard look on his face, but didn't seem to be paying attention. He didn't notice Nearly-Headless Nick, and tripped right over Justin. He fell to the ground with a smack. He scrambled up quickly and looked down at Justin with a look of shock and horror upon his face. His eyes traveled up Nearly-Headless Nick and his look intensified.
