Nagito lifted his legs onto the bed. Slowly, steadily moving away from Hajime. The small glint had become a raging fire. Izuru's wide grin told him that neither of them were safe.
"I won't let this continue." Izuru said through clenched teeth. "And all he ever says is, Nagito wants to protect us, he would never hurt us." He stood and turned his back to Nagito. "What you were about to tell him, would shatter our mind into so many fragments... There would be no hope of reclaiming what was lost." Izuru turned and glared at Nagito. "Oh, but maybe that is what you want in the end?" He smiled as he saw that what he said, caused Nagito to retreat further from the edge of the bed. "You have been planning this from the moment you learned who we were."
Nagito had finally reached the other edge of the bed. He slowly put his feet on the floor and continued backing up until he reached the wall. "I was protecting him." He said in a low whisper. "He needed to hate me." He looked up at Izuru with a mix of anger and sadness. "I didn't know it would make you emerge."
"It's your fault, then. The experiment I set up was supposed to make the decision of which is superior, Despair or Hope." Izuru walked gracefully around the bed. Steadily coming ever closer to Nagito, who was now crouched in the corner. "I should have killed you when I had the chance, Servant." Izuru stood in front of Nagito, and reached out one hand to grab a handful of hair. Nagito screamed in pain and reached for his head trying to break free. It was no use, he felt himself being dragged across the floor. "I made a promise, that I would not harm you." Izuru said quietly. "But you make it increasingly difficult." With a fluid motion, he lifted Nagito up and threw his shaking body back onto the bed.
Nagito laid there quietly crying and rubbing his head. "I'm sorry." He said over and over again. With his eyes covered, he could not see Izuru, but he felt his weight climbing onto the bed, as he placed one knee on either side of him. Knowing what this might mean, he quickly opened his eyes to see Hajime's beautiful face distorted in anger.
No, this isn't Hajime. Whatever happens, this is not Hajime.
Nagito looked away from Izuru as he felt a bite on his left shoulder. Beyond the pain, he could feel the warm blood as it ran down his arm. He clenched his teeth and endured the pain without a sound. "That's why I always liked you, Servant. You remain quiet no matter how much pain you are in." Tears escaped from the corners of Nagito's closed eyes. "Oh don't worry, this is just a little preview." Izuru whispered into his ear. "A reminder, if you will, of where you truly belong." Izuru lowered his head and licked the blood from Nagito's shoulder. "You didn't need to protect him, you little bug. That is my job." Izuru glanced down at the space between the two of them and smiled. "Always the obedient dog." He half sat up and began to pull at the waist of Nagito's jeans. Nagito let out a small cry before covering his face with his arms and sobbing softly. But what happened next was the last thing he had expected.
"No!" The scream came from above him. Nagito lifted his arms to see Hajime standing next to the bed. He was breathing hard, as if he had just run a great distance. Still unsure if it was really Hajime, he laid as still as possible, almost afraid to breathe.
"Ko, are you alright?" Hajime reached out to Nagito, who flinched a little, then suddenly leapt to his feet, hugging him tight.
"I'm so sorry." He sobbed, burying his head in Hajime's shoulder.
"No. You have nothing to be sorry for." He pushed Nagito up a bit so he could look into his eyes. "What happened was not your fault." He turned away. Looking around the small room, Hajime saw a small clump of white hair near the foot of the bed. He bent down slowly and picked it up. "Maybe, it's better if you leave." He said, tears brimming in his eyes again. "I'm in control now, but I feel him clawing his way back..." He was slowly moving the hair between his fingers "I don't know how to protect you." Nagito reached out for him, but he backed away.
"It's ok," Nagito looked down at Hajime's hands, and smiled. "You are getting stronger." He said. "You surfaced right when you needed to."  He reached out again and this time was able to hold Hajime's shaking hand. "Besides, I can't leave you like this."
"What do you mean?" Hajime asked, looking at the floor.
"In despair." He said quietly. "I've been there so many times before." He moved in a bit closer, wrapping his arms around Hajime's waist. "You were there to bring me Hope. I'm going to be right here to bring it to you." As he spoke, he lead Hajime towards the bed.  "What you need now is sleep."
Hajime's eyes widened as they reached the bed. "He emerges when I sleep." Nagito sat on the edge of the bed. Still holding Hajime by the waist.
"Then it's up to me to protect you this time."
He leaned his head against Hajime's stomach. "I can withstand anything as long as you are here with me."
Hajime slowly sat next to Nagito on the bed, laying his head on his shoulder. He was exhausted. "I love you, Hin" Nagito said kissing the top of his head. He slowly lowered the both of them down to the pillow. "Sleep." He whispered one more time. He felt Hajime relax, and he knew it was only a matter of minutes before sleep overtook the both of them. He smiled as he snuggled closer. "Let me chase the demons away." Before he knew it, he was asleep.
