I was sluggishly walking down the hallway after barely sleeping last night. I was up all night listening to the fifteen voicemails that Jason had left, and I assumed he had tried to leave more, but my voicemail box was full. I heard an earfull from Madison this morning about my voicemail being full, and how I didn't answer any of her texts. When she saw my appearance her anger dulled, but she still seemed peeved about me leaving the party on Saturday without telling her. I'm sure Andy told her that I got home safely, even though I didn't disclose the fact that Gavin helped me in.
I still couldn't wrap my head around what I saw the other night at the party. I hadn't confronted either one of them yet, but I know I'm not going to worry over it. I learned my lesson with the fight I had with Andy over Jason.
Jason... I still didn't know what to do about him. He keeps texting me, and his voicemails pulled at my heart. They all contained some of the same things, "AJ please call me back. It's not what you saw. I mean, yeah, it is. But there is an explanation. Please listen to me. Call me back..." He sounded so haunted. I almost called him back, but I didn't, remembering the voicemails were from a week ago.
I walked down the halls, and as I turned the corner I saw Jess laughing with one of her friends, surprised she had any. What is getting into me? I hugged my books closer to my chest as I sped up my pace. I wanted to get out of this hallway as soon as possible. I heard Jess say my name but I kept walking, but when I heard laughing coming from her mouth I stopped and turned around. For a second she faltered, but she was too proud. It sucks for her that I didn't have any sleep last night, because usually I wouldn't walk up to her, like I was, but I was sick of feeling like this, because of her and Jason.
"What do you want, Jess?"
"What do you mean, AJ? I was just saying hi," she smiled sweetly, but for her, it was devilishly. I hate this girl.
"You know what, Jess, if you have something to say, say it to my face. No one likes a bully."
"How do you feel that your boyfriend liked me better than you?"
"You mean my ex-boyfriend. All you did was get my sloppy seconds." Why is this stuff coming out of my mouth?
"More like your current awesomeness. I believe Jason Macarthy was still dating you when he kissed me." She yelled out Jason's name and me dating him, probably for the whole hallway to here, and soon the whole school. I heard gasps coming from behind me, this is just great. No one was moving, never mind breathing. AJ Tabet never got into confrontations. AJ Tabet never undermined her twin. Both had happened right infront of them in just a few minutes.
I stood for a minute, stock-still. I debated whether or not to slap her, but I refused to get detention over a bitch like Jess. She started to smirk when I slightly turned to walk away, which was just in time for me to see it and to drop my books on the ground, and get in her face. Her shocked and scared face was enough to make me laugh but I held back. Unfortunately before I could say anything I was grabbed by Andy as Madison quickly picked up my books. Just as Madison stood up she pushed Jess against the walls, "Screw you, Jess!"
"I have never seen you do anything like that. Are you okay?"
I nodded, breathing deeply. My beating heart was going crazy, and I couldn't tell if what happened was an effect from the lack of sleep last night, or from the events that happened last week. "Yeah, yeah, I'm good."
"That was so totally awesome! AJ, you should've seen her face! I think Aaron recorded it. I'm going to text him for it now. I'm so proud of you!" She hugged me tightly as she jumped excitedly in my arms, and for a few minutes, everything was forgotton.
