"I really don't want to do this," I muttered as I stood at my locker in the morning before school.
"Oh shut up. You're going to do this and you're going to like it!" Madison yelled, causing several people to look over at us. Embarrassed, I turned around and pretended to look through my locker, avoiding everyone staring. "Maybe it'll give you incentive to finally come clean to your brother," I glared at her, but I knew she was right. Ever since the Halloween party last week, Andy has been acting weird. I've been worried that he figured something out after Jason punched the guy who wouldn't let me go.
"Will you be there with me when I tell him?" I asked desperately.
Madison's eyes widened, "Um, what? Why- why would you want me to be there with you?"
I looked at her strangely, "Because he might not yell so much if you're there. I can't count on my dad being there to put the fire out."
Madison looked around, "If you really want me there, then sure. But I think you two should really do this alone."
"Is everything okay?" I asked worriedly, Madison was never like this.
"Yeah, fine!" Madison looked at something down the hall, "I completely forgot that I have to go see Mr. H about the science project before the bell. I'll see you later," she gave me a one armed hug and took off down the hall.
I shut my locker, and started heading down the hall, "Amanda!" I cringed, and turned around. Jessica was running down the hall in heels. I raised my eyebrows at her, in no mood to pretend with her today. "Is your brother doing anything tonight?"
"I don't know," I said curtly.
"Well could you find out for me?"
"No," and then I left her standing there in the hallway as I walked to my class.
I sat in my desk with five minutes to spare. Mr. Raymond was setting up the board with random math problems from our homework last night. My phone buzzed in my pocket, so I took it out to see a text from Jason, "Excited for tonight?"
My stomach twisted in knots, but I didn't want to let him know that, "Yeah!"
"Great! My parents can't wait to meet you!" And there it was. I clutched my stomach, and looked down at my outfit. I was wearing a blue dress with black leggings and black boots. It wasn't my normal attire for a school day, but I was being announced as captain today, and I wanted to look good for his parents. He texted me again, "Do you want me to pick you up from school or Madison's?"
"I have that meeting after school. I think it's better if you pick me up from Madison's."
"You got it. See you later AJ."
The bell rang and as Mr. Raymond stood to close the door, Madison came running in. "Sorry, Mr. Raymond!" Mr. Raymond waved her off, and closed the door. He went to the front of the class and announced who was going to answer the problems on the board. When Madison wasn't called up, and I knew I was safe, I leaned over. "What was the rush? Mr. H would've given you a hall pass," I whispered.
Madison was about to respond when the last kid sat down, and Mr. Raymond stood up to check the answers. She held up a finger signaling me to hold on. She ripped off a piece of paper, and started writing. A few minutes later, Madison threw the note on my desk, "I hate being late and I stopped in the bathroom so Mr. H didn't need to give me the pass."
I read the note and replied, "Old school with the notes. I like it:) you looked a little flustered when you came in and you were acting weird in the hallway. Are you okay?" When I knew Mr. Raymond wasn't looking, I passed over the note. "I'm fine, promise," Madison whispered over to me and faced forward for the rest of the class.
