✑     CHAPTER XII: DEAR WILBUR, the broken are the more evolved
the title itself is a quote from the movie split. it represents wilbur's character (you can tell i've been looking into c!wilbur as well) as a whole, and overall expresses how from his experiences with the curse he has, his life is only going to come down to one conclusion: destruction. and same with his brother techno, but obviously, wilbur views this as an advantage (most of y'all have already read gardener you get this), making his character very different and evolved than others in his own way.

the imagery used in this chapter is the Mater Dolorosa (meaning "sorrowful mother" in latin), also known as Our Lady of Sorrows. Mater Dolorosa is the depiction of the Virgin Mary in relation to the sorrows of her life. this is a representation of not only kristen's character but also phil's. they have to live with the sorrow of knowing that their children are cursed.

✑     CHAPTER XIII: DEAR TOMMY, watch out for the future
the title is pretty self explanatory. it especially refers to future events within tommy's lore such as the prison lockdown with dream and the soon-to-be-occurring l'manberg mess. right now, the thing that's driving him towards bad events is the camarvan.

the imagery used is obviously more on the grim side (haha i'm so punny), showing the grim reaper in reference to the inevitable future

the imagery used is obviously more on the grim side (haha i'm so punny), showing the grim reaper in reference to the inevitable future. but i feel like the more darker imagery used, the more it represents the possibility of more sinister events happening besides death. like i could've used any imagery to represent the future but i chose this one specifically for tommy's chapter.

✑     CHAPTER XIV: retrogenesis and depression don't last forever
so reading into the chapter, you'll get just a tad bit of a better understanding of dementia and what retrogenesis is. and the fact that these two things correlated with the chapter and y/n's past do not last forever is a reminder towards y/n. it's like a new mindset to get into since in a way, being reminded that things don't last forever sounds dark but can also be comforting.

out of all the chapters for the past arcs (and maybe even in general), i find this imagery the most unsettling and dark. the reason why is because it represents nonna's dementia, and the very last thing that maybe she could finally depict before death. dementia usually causes the brain to not be able to recognize things and often have a hard time depicting what is what, especially faces. this can be seen on the six album covers of Everywhere At The End Of Time.

✑     CHAPTER XV: DEAR Y/N, please come back to meoverall, self explanatory

—i just woke up... and.. she was dead... and i was just left there, holding her hand.

✑     CHAPTER XVI: DEAR KING, terrence loves you
in the flashback in this chapter when king was in middle school, he actually didn't have the nickname king until the year after. so once he got the nickname king, he kind of stuck to that name and referred to his real name (terrence) as a different identity after the event of his father oding. to him, terrence is basically his younger self that felt really insecure, guilty, and abused at the time. so the title is a way of connecting himself with his past, and accepting the fact that the trauma he experienced when he was younger made him who he is today despite not liking it. he respects who he grew up to be.

"terrence loves you" is also a reference to a lana del rey song about struggling to come to terms with love and despair, especially in a situation of abandonment, which highly relates to king's situation as he felt very guilty and disconnected with leonard when king saw him overdose. additionally, this song has an underlying reference of david bowie's half brother named terry who was diagnosed with schizophrenia, leading into the title since some schizophrenics refer to themselves in third person. so instead of saying "i love you," it would be "terrence loves you."
