It was a crazy morning, not that I had a good sleep last night. Sanjana's news and the sudden disappearance of that stranger after ordering the special dish for me kept me wide awake.
I didn't want to disturb Chitra and Koushik on their honeymoon and Rai was down with fever. Hence, I had no other option than to call the prankster of our group.
"Hook me up with some Thai girl, only then I shall listen to you," he said picking up my call.
"Shut up, Karan Bajaj!"
"I am serious Deepa," he mocked.
"And here I thought you had your eyes only for Elora." I teased, however, I realised it was not a good thing to say because he immediately went silent. Elora had really become an off-limit topic for him.
What was going on with these two? Anyways, I quickly diverted the topic. "Karan, Sanjana had called last night. She informed that Shekhar ran away."
"Why can't she keep her mouth shut!" Karan huffed.
"Karan!"
"Okay fine. Yes, it is true but you don't have to get worried."
Before he could throw any other nonsense solutions I narrated the last night's incident.
"If you are thinking that Shekhar the bastard managed to cross international boundaries in one night then Deepa, you are a complete lost cause!" Karan scolded. "Take my suggestion and do not imagine things. It is Rai who writes daily soaps and not you. For once get your head off from Shekhar. You are there at a destination wedding. Gather some tips and plan for yours with Mahen."
"Karan please, I am scared!"
"Don't be! Deepa, don't give that bastard so much power to bother you every passing second. Bring out that courageous girl in you who smuggled in rats into school premises that too during a school play only because her best friend didn't get her rightful honour!"
"But Karan –"
"No, listen to me. Shekhar won't be bothering you, we are trying our best to gather all kinds of proves and his end is near."
"What do you mean?" that sounded odd. They were trying to gather proves? What kind of proves? I thought Nupur's confession was all that we needed and the mystery person behind Shekhar. What were these proofs all about?
"I mean, you should start relaxing. Now, I have to go, I have a breakfast date waiting!"
Karan disconnected the call. They were all hiding something from me and I will figure it out.
"Boss, where shall I place this?" our crew had arrived this morning and with Lofa's instruction the set-up was ready, I was needed for the final check.
"Right next to the stage," I quickly brushed off all the tension and switched on my work mode. There was a destination wedding to shoot!
As we clicked pictures of the groom, I could hear the swooning coming from young girls.
The international crime lawyer seemed to have a great fan following. "A little to your left please," I instructed as he changed sides to give up his opposite profile.
"Can we get over with this quickly? I feel kind of uncomfortable here," he said trying to give us a different pose.
"Mr. Lawyer might be comfortable with asking awkward and challenging questions in the courtroom but he gets uncomfortable with a little attention?" Maheshweta gracefully walked towards us.
We giggled while her would-be-husband Ishan Banerjee rolled his eyes. He definitely hated attention, unlike socialite Maheshweta. But looking at the couple I could tell they were very much in love, this was not one of those bitter-sweet love stories, rather it was plain romantic.
