Katherine

"Katherine Mia Herrera." I repeat my new name in the mirror. "Katherine Mia Herrera."

I adjust my tank top, an aqua blue one, and look down at my 13 year old self.

"Katherine Mia Herrera." I say. "That's my new name. Not Katherine Mia Ulysses, Katherine Mia Herrera."

I'm glad to leave this place, I can't wait. I mean, it's a pretty nice orphanage, but the new sense of a new adventure gets depressing after a while. I'm being adopted by a couple, Mario and Tiffany Herrera. They sound like nice enough people. I was told that Mario, or my new Dad, came to adopt me, last night, and so in my PJs, I met him. He told me Tiffany always wanted a child, and I was an early birthday present. Yeah, really early. I signed my signature on one of the papers.

And now I'm not an orphan. I have parents.

I decided last night to do a quick google search by sneaking into the computer room, and so I typed in Tiffany Herrera first. A wiki page came up, something called the official IHasCupquake Fan Wiki I think. And I then searched her up on YouTube. I watched a few of her videos, and I smiled when I saw her cheery face. And also Mario's, too, in a video where they were playing together. I wasn't thinking "My parents are famous!" I was thinking "Wow, these are my new parents. I'm so excited!"

I just kept pinching myself, waiting for the dream to be over. But it isn't yet. Because I've got a whole another whopping 70 or so years to go until this dream is over and I do finally wake up.

I just hope I never wake up.

Tiffany

"PLEASE, tell me the surprise!" I beg Mario as he drives.

"Sorry, babe, it's a surprise." Mario grins at me. "But we're almost there."

Maybe we're getting another cat? Going to Ikea? But I can tell by Mario's face it's something much more significant than getting a new coffee table.

After a few minutes, a red brick building comes into view, with a sign that says Cherrybrook Children's Home, and there's a logo of a stick figure woman holding a stick child's hand. I cam see on the side of the building is a playground, and on the wall that faces the playground is a mural of kids holding hands and smiling on a grassy flatland. The sun shines on the neatly trimmed grass, and the sky is a crystal clear blue. This looks like a cheery place, unlike the stereotypical orphanage with Ms. Hannigan and sad girls in old clothes cleaning all the time.

"Why are we here?" I ask Mario.

"I know how long you've wanted a kid," He grins. "And last night I came here with some friends who work here and now we are the adoptive parents of Katherine Mia."

"How old is she?" I ask.

"13." Mario shrugs. "I know you would rather have a younger kid, but they didn't have any little kids, so . . ."

"Thank you!" I throw my arms around him as he stops the car in a parking spot. We both smile at eachother, the picture of a happy couple with room to spare about to adopt.

"Come on, let's go in!" I throw open the door, since no cars are parked next to us, and me and Mario race eachother to the doors. I get there first.

"No fair!" Mario laughs. "Aw, come on!"

"Alright." I smile. Mario presses the intercom button.

"This is Mario and Tiffany Herrera. We're here to pick up Katherine Mia." Mario says, and then the door clicks, and we open it and go inside to see a small lobby, with a desk and four armchairs. There's a small doorway into a living room.

"Katherine is in there." The young lady at the desk smiles.

"Thank you." I nod, and me and Mario step inside the living room. There's miscellanious couches and chairs, not really fitting any theme, but giving it a charming, homey feeling. There's an old tv with a show, I think Vampire Diaries, playing, and a few teenage girls watching. A younger girl sits away from them, sitting on a suitcase.

"Are you Katherine?" I ask. She nods, and looks up at me, pushing her blonde bags out of her eyes.

"Yes." She speaks softly, looking at me with her wide, blue eyes. "Yes."

"I'm Tiffany, and this is Mario." I smile. "But you can us Mom and Dad, if you want."

"Sure." She slightly smiles. "Mom."

"Oh my gawd, the Princess has parents?" A girl snorts. "Trust me, you don't want her. She's just strange."

"Don't speak to my daughter like that." I pat Katherine's shoulder. "Anyone you want to say goodbye to before you leave?"

"No." She shakes her head.

"Alright, lets get this in the car." Mario points at the suitcase, and Katherine stands up. She grabs one suitcase, and Mario grabs her backpack. I reach down to grab a small hatbox she has as Katherine and Mario go out the door to the car, and then one of the teen girls stand up.

"Seriously, Katherine has problems." The brunette says. "She says she hears voices at night. And they get louder everyday for her. She says the voices tell her not to take her medicine and to listen."

"I . . ." I look at the girl. "I think your lying."

"I swear." The snotty blonde snorts. "Princess has some serious mental problems. She's a retard. Might as well put her in the insane asylum and leave her there to die."

"Don't you dare talk about my daughter like that!" I scold.

"I can talk however I want, Cupquake." The snotty blonde smirks. "I'm the owner of a Cupquake hater club with over five thousand members, and I am recording everything on this cell phone." She holds up her cell. I grab her cell phone and crush it with my bare hands, then hiss, and walk out.
