I unbuckle my seatbelt after Mario pulls into the driveway, then get out of the car as my heels click on the driveway.  I stretch when I get out and then take out my keys, and go up to unlock the door. When I open it, I hear screaming. Me and Mario hurry in, and instead of running at human speed, out of terror I run at vampire speed.

I look into Kat's room to see her in her pajamas, leaning against a cracked wall, and a pool of blood. Her face looks bruised, and getting paler by the minute.

"Kat!" I scream, running to her and kneeling. "Kat, can you talk to me?"

"Vampires . . ." Her mouth strains, taking deep breaths and just barely conscious. "Cupquake vampire. My dad vampire. I vampire."

"I got her medicinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn . . . ." Mario runs up with her prescription, but is surprised to see Kat lying against the wall, mumbling stuff about vampires. "What happened?"

"I don't know." I say, panicked. "But how does she know I'm a vampire?"

"You're a vampire?" Mario says, surprised.

"Yeah, we'll talk about that later." I shrug. "How about you just go downstairs while I deal with this?"

I try to call Ian over and over again, but he doesn't answer. Come on, I need some help here! I don't have much experience in the vampire game.

I clean up Kat's face as she starts to sleep, and then I put her on the bed while I clean up the mess and move her dresser to cover up the crack in her wall. She sleeps peacefully, sit down on a chair watching her. An hour or so later, she wakes up.

"Kat! Are you okay?" I ask, literally jumping out of my seat.

"Yeah. I had the strangest dream. My Dad was a vampire and he turned me into one . . ."

"Kat," I sit down on the bed, "That wasn't a dream."

"What?" Kat asks.

"I can't believe I didn't smell it before, must be because I'm too young. You're half vampire, or were. But your dad must have done something to make you fully vampire." I say.

"This can't be real." Kat looks down, "Tiff . . . Mom . . . are you really a vampire?"

"Yes." I nod.

"Why didn't you tell me earlier?"

"I didn't want you to see me differently." I sigh, "I'm sorry. Anyways, do you know who your dad is? What did he look like? I'll hunt him down if you want."

"He said . . ." Kat thinks, "his name was Ian Lovegate."

I gasp, "No . . . how could it be him?"

"And it was really scary. His eyes were red and everything!" Kat nods.

"Ian's a rogue? I can't believe it!" I stand up. "I can't believe it! After he saved me and everything! He must have been wearing eye contacts the whole time."

"Do you know my dad?" Kat asks.

"Yes." I nod. "He must have sent that guy to try and kidnap you! But why? Oh, yeah, you're a hearer. We need to be careful from now on. Don't trust anyone except me and Mario, okay?"

"Okay." Kat looks down. "But when you kill my dad, just do it quickly. The sooner the better, right?"

"You shouldn't feel any compassion for him. He attacked you and made you fully vampire. But, okay." I say.

"I'm sorry, it's just . . . that he's my dad . . . I feel like I should love him. He's my only family."

"You don't have to if you don't. We're your family, me and Mario and Link and Navi." I say, putting my hand on Kat's shoulder. "Anyways, I should probably explain things to Mario. Things are too deep for me to lie. You can come downstairs, I have cookies if you want them."

"No . . . I don't want cookies." Kat says. "Do you have any . . . blood?"

"Yeah, I have a bag hidden in the back of the fridge." I say. "Come on, let's go downstairs."

I help Kat downstairs, her still being weak from shock, and sit her down at the kitchen table, where Mario has been eating the rest of our Thin Mints. I grab the bag of blood, open it, and pour it into a cup, then hand it to Kat. I sit down at the table.

"Okay, Tiff, just tell me what's happening."  Mario sighs.

"Okay." I nod, taking a deep breath. "So, I'm a vampire."

I tell Mario everything, from when I was transformed to what happened to Kat, and then Mario stands up and rubs his forehead.

"This . . . this is just really surprising, babe. Why didn't you tell me this before?"

"I'm sorry. I was just . . . scared of you knowing and thinking I was some freak." I bite my lip and look down.

"I'm just going to go to bed early, okay?" Mario says, and walks upstairs.

The next day, Kat stays home from school. She does the next day. And the next.

"Kat, you can't just stay home forever." I say one day while she's watching Bill Nye the Science Guy.

"I'm immortal, of course I can." Kat sighs. "Besides, I'm still learning. Look, Bill Nye. Science."

"I can't just home school you. What about your friends?" I ask.

Kat thinks it over for a few seconds. "Okay, I'll go back to school. But if my friends think I'm a freak . . ."

"They won't. Your still the same old Kat, aren't you?" I smile.

"I don't know." Kat shrugs. "I'll have to kill innocent people to live."

"No, no, you don't have to." I say. "You can still get blood without killing."

"But what if I become my Dad? I don't want to be like him. He killed my mom!"

I rub Kat's shoulders. "Just because he's your dad doesn't mean you have to be like him."

"I know, but what if it runs in genetics or something?"

"You aren't a cruel person, Kat. I know it." I say.
