Chapter 20

Sorry this chapter took a while! Writer's block....again. I will try to update more often and hopefully I'll finish by the end of 2015 or in January.

Taylor's POV

"So, what did you do in Israel?" I ask Miriam. "And how long was the flight?"

"Oh," Miriam thinks. "It was a while. We visited the Western Wall, narrowly avoided suicide bombers and terrorists, saw my great niece. It was fun. Some crazy guy almost got on our plane to bomb it, though. Besides the fact I'm waiting a long time to visit again, it was cool."

"Sounds scary." I shiver, leaping down from my post at the top of the abandoned apartment's roof. "Your turn to watch."

"Dang it." She moaned. "Seriously, I don't see why we have to watch anymore. We scared off all the drug dealers and illegal immigrants for a long time."

"Well, ever since Ian has moved his post from New York City to here, I think we should keep watch. The chance to eliminate a few unsupportive vampires would be too good of an opportunity to pass up."

"Fine." Miriam jumped from the rusty metal fire escape up to the roof top, as I realized something.

"Wait, Miriam, did you say you met your great niece?!"

"Yeah." She looked back down at me. "Remember, I was turned in Israel after being shot, ran away to the States, and kept away from family for awhile. Now I'm apparently a family member who was blessed with slow aging. I guess I got what I wished for, first time I visited the Western Wall I wished to live for a long time."

"Slow aging?" I called up.

"Yeah, vampires age but really slowly. I was 11 when I was turned, now look 13. I think I'll stop aging when I look to be in my 20s. That's how the vampire thing works. But Kat might age quicker, since she's part hearer."

"Lucky." I groan. "Where is she, anyways?"

"I heard she was sick."

"She was so lucky to have been a human, why did Ian have to turn her?"

"Yeah, don't act like you hate me for saving your life after you were kidnapped by a police officer who offered you a ride home."

"It was a police officer!" I countered. 

"Well, anyways-Taylor! I see intruders!" Miriam shouted, alerting me. I quickly leaped up from the fire escape up to the roof, where I could see two vampires climbing over the gates.

"Okay, well, let's go ask them why they're here and then chase them away." I say, and Miriam nods. We both ran to the edge of the roof, and jumped off, quickly hearing the satisfying crunch of gravel under our feet. The two vampires in front of, a guy and a girl, didn't look surprised. Instead they looked troubled.

"What do you want?" Miriam demanded.

"Are you Taylor and Miriam?" The girl asks.

"Why do you want to know?" I hiss.

"Kat's in trouble." The guy says. "Their house has been taken by Ian."

"And why should we believe you?" I ask.

"Because if you go look, you'll see it." The girl says. "Oh, and Kat said that someone betrayed you, Matt, I think?"

"Matt?!" Miriam screams, but I quickly clamp my hand over her mouth, which she pries off. "Not Matt!"

"She has a crush on him." I whisper to the couple.

"I have super hearing and am the oldest here! Don't gossip about me!" Miriam growls, and hisses. "How... why would Matt do this?"

"We'll check this out for ourselves." I say, trying to remain calm. "I hope Daniel isn't with his brother."

"We'll have to go find Daniel, then." Miriam says. "Where does he live?"

"With his mom?" I say. "Honestly, Miriam, not every vampire lives in an abandoned building."

"Yeah... right." I can tell she's trying her best not to look confused. "Okay. Anything else?"

"Kat's being starved. She's not allowed to drink any blood until she agrees to work with Ian. Also, her mom is being tortured and her dad is missing. We have the address to Ian's headquarters, too." The girl handed Miriam a slip of paper she had been holding.

"Okay, goodbye." Miriam says, and is about to turn away, when the guy says, "Wait."

"What?" I ask.

"We want to help too."

"You barely know them."

"I've seen Tiffany's videos and she's seen mine. I want to help."
