The Sun's rays peaked through my bedroom window, waking me up on Boxing Day morning. The birds were beginning to sing their song, the Winter's air spilling through my open window. I glanced over at the clock; it was 9am. I had to be at the race tracks for 11am...or, should I say, we did. I turned my body slowly, careful not to wake him up. His black hair lay flat over his head, loose strands falling towards his closed eyes. I leant in to his face, pecking his cheek softly to wake him up. His nose wrinkled before his eyelids flickered open; his hazel-brown eyes met with mine and a sweet smile appeared on his face.

'Morning JJ' I smiled.

'Morning beautiful' he mumbled sleepily. Giggling, I felt my cheeks turn red.

Before you ask, no; nothing happened. We'd kissed, and that was all. We had'nt known eachover long; he had said he did'nt want to ruin anything.

We hopped out of bed and began to get ready. I got dressed into nice but warm clothing as it was extremely cold that morning. He had'nt brought any spare clothing so he wore what he had been wearing the day before. I put my make up on but left my hair natural as he played with his quiff; attempting to style it perfectly. I made sure I had everything before we grabbed a couple of slices of toast from the kitchen table. I noticed the mistletoe sprig which lay on the table, reminding me of the kiss we had shared yesterday evening. It had all happened so fast. Who would've thought the boy from the stables could be so much more...

We exited the back door at around 10:30am; it would only be a 5 minute drive. The bitter cold air filled my lungs, numbing them slightly. It had been cold this Winter, very cold. But something about today was different; the bitterness suggested something else, as if I should be anticipating something bad. Maybe it was just my imagination but I couldn't shrug the feeling as we walked down the path, out of the gate and climbed into the warmth of JJ's car. We had'nt spoken much this morning, but I'm sure we would during the car journey.

*JJ's POV*

'Thanks for letting me stay last night' I smiled as we drove to the race tracks.

'It's ok, I was'nt really expecting the kiss' she giggled sweetly. I hesitated before asking;

'So you like me too?'

She stared out of the window before looking back at me, smiling widely.

'Of course I do!' she exclaimed.

I held back a smile; she liked me! Now all I had to do was explain everything. This was my chance to get her back.

'So you'll be ok at the races..even after the accident?' I asked worryingly. She nodded eagerly.

'I'll be fine, dont worry!' she laughed it off, but I detected a sense of fear in her eyes; as if she was anticipating something.

*Eva's POV*

As I laughed it off, he looked into my eyes; smiling. I think I hid my fear well enough so he wouldn't notice, or at least I hope he did'nt notice. Of course I was scared; I remembered the accident more clearly than any other memory I still had. It had been terrifying; but I had to go. I loved the races and I knew JJ would too; he was a jockey once after all.

Stones churned up under my feet as me and JJ walked arm in arm from the car across the ground towards where we would stand to watch the race. Different people brushed past us, not taking much notice. The crowd was getting bigger, the anticipation for the race building up. Me and JJ squeezed past to get a good space; right at the front by the railings about midway down the track. My hand must've been shaking because JJ squeezed onto my hand tightly before asking if I was ok. I nodded but inside I was'nt ok. I was terrified.
