The Boy At The Stables~ Chapter 11~

'So, what is going on? Why did you run in front of the horse?' Josh asks; I throw JJ's bag of clothes onto the floor nearby and sit down at the table. We had just visited JJ's house and pickes up a few of his belongings; I was just hoping he would have use for them again. Josh smiles; placing the hot cup of tea on my kitchen table; waiting for an answer to his question

'He claimed that I was with him, before my accident...Has JJ told you about me? About my accident?' I ask.

'He told George...Me, you and Jaymi..We've already met; remember, you used to watch us all perform in the living room? We were close before your accident..'

Suddenly I wasn't talking to Josh in my kitchen. I was in a living room; it was JJ's living room, I could remember now. It was Summer; I could feel the Sun's heat pouring through the window and bouncing off of my face. I was sat on the settee; watching three boys in front of me; singing. I recognised their faces instantly; Jaymi, Josh and JJ.

'Eva!' Josh snapped his fingers in front of my face; bringing me back into the room.

'Sorry, I- I just had a flashback..I- I remember you, and Jaymi. You were all singing to me in JJ's living room.' I smile. He smiles back; remembering what I had just described. I clear my throat before continuing my story.

'Well, as we stood by the railings before the race, he claimed to have known me before my accident. I did'nt believe him, so I ran away; unknowingly into the path of a horse. As I saw the horse coming towards me, I remembered everything; every memory I had ever shared with him. I still can't believe it...I still don't beli-'

'How can you not believe it!' Josh shouts at me; cutting me off mid-sentence.

'A stranger wouldn't push you out of the path of a horse; risking his own life to save yours! A stranger wouldn't just make up a story like JJ's! A stranger wouldn't move his horse to your stables especially to get back in contact with you!'

The birds had stoppped singing and a cold silence filled the air.

'What? What do you mean JJ moved his horse purposely just to get back in contact with me?' I ask; Josh's face turning away from me.

'So this is all real, we really were together?' I gasp; sinking back into my chair.

He turns around; his face red with rage.

'Of course this is real! Of course you were really together!' he shouts. His face returns to normal colour as he calms himself down.

'Do..do you remember anything else? Anything about..about me?' Josh's eyes sadden slightly; his blue eyes becoming glassy as they tear up.

'No, not yet. Why? What happened?' I ask; a part of me not wanting to know his answer.

My mobile phone vibrating against the table interupts the eruption of anger. I leap to it; eager to answer it and learn of JJ's condition.

'Hello?'

'Hello, is that Eva Tomlinson; JJ's partner?'

'Yes, it is. How is he?'

'His surgery has finished unexpectedly early. The swell on his brain was successfully reduced and his condition is stable. Would you and JJ's friend be able to come into the hospital?'

'Yes, that will be fine. Thank you, thank you so much.'

'That is ok, we will see you soon.'

Putting the phone down, I glance up at the clock before looking back at Josh. Three and a half hours had already passed since we had left the hospital already. My knee's become week; relief shooting through my body. Josh catches me as I collapse into his arms; tears rolling down my cheeks.

'Eva, what is it? Eva, what's happened?' he shakes me; nervous for an answer.

'JJ's ok, he's ok. We need to go to the hospital.' I choke. Josh's arms wrap around my body even tighter than when he had pulled me from the hospital ward; even tighter than when he had pulled me away from the race track.

Josh's arms wrapped around me tightly reminded me of a time before my accident. I could'nt yet grasp onto it, I could'nt yet vision it in my mind; but I knew I had felt these arms around me before. There was more to Josh than I knew yet. There was more to Josh than I could remember...yet.
