*JJ's POV*

She tightens her grip on my hand as I clear my throat with a small cough again; trying not to move too much.

'JJ, you don't have to tell me today, it's ok.' she trys to reassure me but I could'nt resist telling her.

'No. I need to tell you now, before Josh or my parents get here.'

A forced smile covers her face; she knew that whatever I was going to tell her was serious.

'I'll start from the beginning. It was the beginning of the Summer when I started to notice...'

'Notice what?' she urges; wanting to know more.

'Eva, I will get to that part. As I said, I started to notice early in the Summer before your accident that you and Josh were becoming...close.'

'You began to see eachover more often and you often stayed at his house or he visited your mother with you. As Josh's visits to your mum's house became more frequent, your mum began to like him more and more. She preferred him to me, and often compared him to me. Anyway, as mine and your mum's friendship became more and more bitter, your relationship became stronger with Josh. It was Christmas Eve when I finally confronted you about it. You denied having any feelings for him, but I could see it in your eyes; you liked him. Your mum kicked me out that night, demanding that I leave you. I left, and spent Christmas day texting you and leaving voice mails; trying to apologise for not trusting you. It came to Boxing day, the day of the races, the day..' I stop talking for a moment, the horrific images flooding back into my mind. Catching my breath, I carried on the story.

'The day of your accident. I spotted yours and Josh's heads near the railings so I quickly pushed through the crowd; desperate to see you. But the crowd were too strong and as the race began, people pushed forward; trying to get a glimpse of their favourate horse; flipping you over the rails and into the path of a horse. I screamed your name, but it wasn't enough; I could'nt save you in time. I remember seeing Josh ducking under the railings and running towards your body; tears running down his cheeks. He was like a helpless child; crouched by your side, not knowing what to do, or think, or say. I pushed harder through the crowd; racing towards your body as Josh had and lifted you up in my arms; blood staining my clothes. Quickly after, your mum ran onto the track; screaming at me.

'Eva doesn't love you. She loves Josh, she even kissed him last night! Tell him Josh, tell him!' She screamed in anger and distraught as she saw her only daughter on the edge of death. Those words tore my life apart; not only were you unconscious in my arms; severely injured, but you loved someone else or at least I thought you did at the time. I could see the guilt in Josh's eyes as I looked up at him, searching for some sort of denial to what your mum had said; but it was true; you had kissed him. Instead of keeping you in my arms, I placed you back on the ground and I ran. I ran, like any coward would, from the accusations, from my best friend, from the only thing I had ever truly loved more than myself; you.'

'Josh kissed me, but I promise, I pushed him awa-'

'Sh, I know, just listen to the rest of the story and you will understand.' I promise Eva. She adjusts her grip on my hand; beginning to listen once more.

'I cried all night. I did'nt sleep, I didn't eat, I didn't move. I couldn't move. I couldn't deal with the thought of your death. The next day, I gathered the courage to go to the hospital; praying you were still alive. When the receptionist confirmed that you were alive, I ran to the ward you were on. As I reached your room, your mum exited the room; banning me from seeing you.

'Just let me know if she is ok.' I pleaded with your mum; but she laughed in my face

'Her surgery went well, but she can't remember anything; not even me, not even Josh. Luckily, she doesn't remember you. I want you to leave her alone and never talk to her again. If you see her in the street, if you see her at the coffee shop, if you see her in town; treat her like you would treat a stranger. I want you out of her life for good; do you understand?'
