Xian remembered faintly how his first year went.

The sun beamed down harshly, catching Xian by surprise. Everyone who needed to was lathering down sunscreen, but luckily Xian's complete heat immunity apparently spread to UV rays, which is pretty useless plot armour, but nonetheless, he was grateful.

'Xian! Are you ready to fight?' Mirio yelled out, slapping the boy on the back in an endearing and also slightly painful way.

'Hell yeah!' the boy smirked, turning to his friends with his grin that he always had on his face. Xian was ready for a fight, itching to get it out of his system.

Mirio could see it in Xian's eyes, the want to win, the driving passion that made him want to do his best as well.

Xian was always like this. He hadn't known the boy that long, but he never faltered, and he never lost his determination. Mirio revered it and sought it, wanting to take after Xian that way. It was just such a hero thing.

'On your marks, get set-' the starting gun went off, Xian's body propelled high into the air along with the other people who could use their quirk as a head start. This year, they had made the first game a sort of scavenger hunt, everyone had something that they had to get. The catch? There were only eighty of these things around, and there were way more than eighty students.

Xian knew exactly where he had to go to get his item, as did most people, it was practically advertised to all of us as the game was being explained.

It was obvious that this game wasn't actually about finding whatever it was, but rather watching people compete for the item. Xian didn't really enjoy the idea of using schoolchildren as entertainment to fill in the lack of national and international sports, but at the same time, if it was a chance of making him stronger, he would take it, no questions asked.

He landed right in front of it, the statue of the principal so charmingly set up in the middle of the fake forest, along with two other people who also were about to get out of the initial brawl.

They looked at Xian, and then at each other, all of them thinking the same thing. "If I get rid of these two and get the statue, I've basically won."

The guy swung the first punch, the ground coming up at Xian and the other girl who he recognised as his classmate, his close friend, Nejire. For now, the two were going to team against the enemy, who was this boy.

'Wait!' Nejire yelled out, dodging the guy's attack and surprising both Xian and him. What could they possibly be waiting for?

'I know we're all fighting for the same thing, but hear me out,' she started. Xian stopped what he was doing and turned to her, interested in her proposal. 'What if us three, together, move the statue far away from here, calling a truce for that time being, and then fight it out?'

Xian looked over at the guy, who just looked really dumbfounded. 'I'm okay with that idea.' Xian said, knowing that it'll just make things worse for these two. "Sorry, Neji."

The guy looked at the two and counted his odds, he wasn't in the hero class, and so he didn't get the training that these two got, and if that meant narrowing down his fighting pool to just these two, then he would risk it.

'Let's do it.'

Xian panted a little, taking the weight of the top half of the statue and setting it down. 'Bloody hell it's heavy.' the other boy complained, twisting his shoulder a bit to rejig it. Xian nodded in agreement. He had no idea why they actually made it out of cement, taking all three of them to carry the 1:1 scale statue of their principal far, far away from the fighting, and ensuring that no one knew where it went.
