Mike tucked a piece of light brown hair behind El's ear.He watched as her chest slowly rose and fell.
She looked so peaceful,no traces of pain or nightmares on her face.Usually, she slept with her eyebrows furrowed, waking up every now and then.
It was different this time, her honey coloured eyes were closed lightly.
Recently she had caught a bit of sun,her face a bit tanned, freckles peppering her nose.In this warm weather she had an exceptional amount of red blush on her face, making her features stand out even more.
Large closed eyes fringed with dark lashes and small pink lips.Carefully,Mike pushed the wooden boat along the river with a paddle.
It was so beautiful here. There were cherry blossom trees covered in pink flowers on either side of the water even though it wasn't spring.
If you stared long enough at the water, you'd be able to see small goldfish swimming about, some shyly hiding under the duckweed.
Looking at the water was like looking at yourself, your reflection greeting you as soon as you lay your eyes upon it.
Mike looked back at his girlfriend, her head rested on his lap as he placed flowers in her wavy hair.
The boat rocked gently the whole time,Mike pushing it forward in order to keep El asleep,to keep her from waking up.
He hoped wherever she was and whatever she was doing in her dream,it was happy and carefree.
That there were no worries in that place,no people trying to take her away or hurt her.
As soon as she woke up there was always a possibility for something to go wrong.
Hell, there was a possibility something could go wrong when she was sleeping too,it would just make it less painful.
"Mike,"she bought her hand up to his face and stroked his cheek,"hi."
"Hi,"he said, kissing her nose making her giggle.
"What time is it?"she asked curiously, the light breeze blowing wisps of her hair into the air.
"Its time for you to go to sleep again,"he brushed through her hair, making her eyes get heavy, not heavy enough to make her fall asleep though.
"Why don't you sleep?"
"Because I have to keep the boat going and wasn't it nice when you were sleeping?"he weaved his hands through her locks of golden brown hair again.
"Mhm,"she replied already half asleep, settling back into Mikes lap.
They drifted down the river for another half an hour.Mike taking photos of El with his camera.
Occasionally he took a few pictures of the scenery. He took a particularly funny picture of a bird sitting at the end of the boat and looking at El with its head cocked to the side.
There were many boats on the river except for theirs.
Usually it was couples just like them, sailing down the calm water.
There was a boat which caught Mikes attention though.A few older men sat in it,holding beers in their hands and shouting some indistinguishable things to each other.
One of them stood up and leaned closer to Mike and El's boat, almost spilling the alcohol out.
"Don't ever let go of that one,"he told Mike pointing towards the sleeping El in his lap,"if you do then you're really messed up."He pointed to his head.
"I would never let her go,"he nodded to the man.
"Good lad,"the man slurred, throwing his beer up in the air and catching it again.
Not long after, the men vanished somewhere down the river, leaving Mike completely bewildered in his seat.
El stirred softly on his lap.Her eyes blinked at him sleepily.
"What was that shouting about,"she rubbed her face tiredly with the sweater Mike gave her.
It was an old simple green one but no one could ever convince her to wear anything else.
"Oh it was nothing really,"he said tapping her nose lightly.
"Mike.."
She knew he was lying. It was written out plainly on his face.
"Ok,ok.This man told me to never let go of you,as in to never break up with you,"he smiled sheepishly.
"And what did you say...?"she fumbled with his dark curls.
"That I would never let go of course."
She hugged him tightly, making the boat sway,"I would have said the exact same thing about you."
"Really?"he asked
"Yes, really,"she whispered in his ear,her breath hot on his skin.
She went to kiss him,but Mike knew what would happen if he didn't stop her soon.
"Maybe let's not make out in the boat incase it flips over,"Mike pressed his fingers lightly on her mouth.
She giggled and nodded.Knowing that he was right.
