Storm (noun)
a violent disturbance of the atmosphere with strong winds and usually rain, thunder, lightning, or snow.
"The storm last night was brutal."
The storm came with a sepia hint to the silver-black sky, as if it already knew the winds and rain it brought would echo for eternity.
A storm in the city conducted electric skies and rain that sang upon the rooftops, and drummed on every window.
The downpour was so heavy that to be caught unawares meant being drenched to the skin. Each drop was as large as a cartoon tear and they felt like gravity had been turned up a notch.
Celeste was curled up in the bed, gazing at the window, as if it were starlight pulsing through the graphite sky, lightning struck with great force.
He jumped and had Zephyr comfort him, stroking his hair as the drops of water raced down the window pane.
He was scared of storms, which Zephyr found quite ironic judging by the fact that Celeste himself was a storm in his life.
He knew Celeste didn't hate the rain though, he's told him about that many times. It is the sort of weather that washes everything anew, bringing deep puddles into which children splash.
And in that happy congregation of water and air, is the sense of being alive, that from such beautiful simplicity comes everything we love, the flora, the fauna, the very essence of nature.
Both of them were watching the rain and hearing it hit the ground, the lights were dimmed, it was an atmosphere both of them wanted.
But Celeste was definitely not on good terms with the thunder nor the lightning, he would flinch and shift back each time it would strike.
A part of him wanted to go outside and the other part did not, it was pretty irritating.
Zephyr smiled, his eyes softened as he played around with his camera. He wasn't one with the weather, be it in a good or bad way, it never phased him much.
He shifted closer to the blonde boy who was now clutching on to the hem of his shirt. "Alright Celeste, let's play a game," Zephyr said.
"A game?" Celeste inquired about getting up.
"Yeah, it's called good days," Zephyr answered.
"Good days?"
"Yeah."
"How does it go?"
"The name explains it, you tell me about a good day in your life, and I tell one to you."
"Alright!"
"I'll go first!" Zephyr cheered, "When I was around 8 years old, my parents had asked me to get in the car saying we were gonna visit the dentist," he let out a chuckle. "I hated visiting the dentist but had no other choice. But guess what?" He paused.
Celeste smiled "What?"
"They drove to a pet shop instead and got me a dog-" Zephyr finished, his eyes shining.
Celeste laughed "Must've been a happy day."
Zephyr nodded "Yep, your turn."
Celeste gave it a thought, "My parents once took me to a daisy field for my birthday, I spent the entire day there picking up daisies and drinking capri-suns."
Zephyr smiled, "The capri-sun part was mildly specific."
The blonde haired boy chuckled, "Your turn."
"Already so this one time I gave this little girl on the street my candy and she started crying out of joy. I felt good about myself, y'know the main character vibes?" Zephyr recalled
"Aww that's so sweet." Celeste replied, "Well I remember helping my old neighbor decorate her house for her anniversary, and honestly I had so much fun."
Both the boys lost themselves in conversation, just how stars lose themselves in the sky. Every little detail they talked about aroused a feeling of happiness and longing.
They felt like they had known each other for decades. Laughter and hope muted the sounds of the thunder and rain outside the closed window.
"But the best day of my life would be when a certain someone took me to the woods to celebrate my birthday." Zephyr finished. Celeste's eyes widened and soon softened into a smile.
"When I first met you, I never thought we'd come this far, " he said.
Zephyr clicked his tongue "I literally made a John Cena joke on the first day we met, nothing could've been worse."
Celeste tried to hold back laughter.
Zephyr pouted.
"Aw, c'mon." Celeste laughed, and he laughed some more, he laughed until tears started to form on the corner of his eyes, tears of happiness, it's been a while.
Zephyr did what he did best, pulled out his camera and clicked a picture.
