Surprise (noun)
An unexpected or astonishing event, fact, etc.
"The announcement came as a complete surprise."
Saturday.
It was pretty early in the morning when Zephyr decided to visit Celeste. The room door shuffled open, "Hey.." Zephyr's voice came from the other side.
Celeste, who was half asleep, gazed over to the door, "Hi Z."
The raven haired walked over to the window and pushed open the curtains, both swaying in opposite directions, "Ah- wake up sleepyhead."
Celeste rubbed his brown eyes which soon reflected the beams of light. Zephyr looked over at Celeste, his look turned into a stare. The glistening in Celeste's eyes was definitely one of a kind.
"It's time for your meds," Zephyr stated.
"oh yeah, I forgot."
"The meteor shower is like in a week." Zephyr said as the blond boy drank water. Celeste was really excited to see it, he couldn't believe he stayed alive for that long either.
"Oh, yeah?"
Zephyr broke out of the stare. "Mhm, I really wanna see it-" he couldn't resist.
"but I'm not allowed to leave the hospital."
Zephyr sighed, "we'll find out a way."
As they were talking, The door swung open, allowing the heat of the empty corridors to enter the chilled room, the door wasn't locked however so neither of them had to get up to open it. "Sorry to cut you boys off but it's medicine time." Ms. Helena said politely, walking in.
She handed Celeste a cup of water with a few pills.
Chugging down the medicine Celeste smiled, "Thank you, Ma'am."
Ms.Helena smiled back, "Not to be nosey but I heard you boys talking about the meteor shower-"
Both the boys looked at each other and then looked at her, wearing an expression that read 'for real?'
"I'm aware that Celeste really wants to see it, I'll try talking to the doctors to see if they can permit a short leave." The nurse finished her sentence.
Celeste looked like he just got accepted into the world's best college. "You can do that?" Zephyr said as Celeste had lost every form of speech.
"I'll try to" she said, "but they've been a little mad at me ever since I lost the jar of meds," Ms.Helena smiled again as she exited the room.
The room was quiet but very obvious that Celeste wanted to blow up with all his mixed emotions, "How ya feel?" Zephyr asked Celeste who was on the edge of his bed.
"Finally.."
Both the boys went over their usual schedules, talking about things just for the sake of keeping each other accompanied, and happy.
Around some time later, they heard a faint knock on the door. "Come in." Celeste stated. The door slid open, expecting it to be the nurse.
Both of Zephyr's parents walked through the door.
Oh what a coincidence, huh?
"What are you guys doing here?" Zephyr asked his parents.
"We wanted to see your little friend, Can we not do that?" His mom answered.
Zephyr replied in silence, fiddling with the curtain.
"Hello, Celeste, we've heard so much about you." Zephyr's father breaks the awkwardness.
Zephyr hid himself and felt a little embarrassed. "Oh hi, nice to meet the both of you." Celeste smiled softly, he still hadn't gotten a hold of conversing with new people, however Zephyr's parents radiated a strange warmth of familiarity.
Zephyr's parents sat down on the couch, his mother set down a medium sized gift bag off to the side. "How are you feeling?" Zephyr's mother asked as she crossed her legs.
"I'm getting better." Celeste looked over at her with the same smile on his face.
"So, you said that you've heard a lot about me?" Celeste snickers and looked over at Zephyr who was barely paying attention to the conversation.
"Oh yeah, plenty of things, Zephyr never stops talking about you." His mom giggled and added, "I'm pretty sure he said something about-"
Zephyr threw a pillow at her to make her stop talking, "That's enough, mom." he smiled, out of happiness, but also out of pure panic, slowly shaking his head.
Not realizing what he's actually done.
"Zephyr Torrens!" Zephyr's dad gasped and yelled but to where only everybody in the room could hear.
'Oops' Zephyr thought to himself as he started to bow, apologizing sarcastically, "I'm sorry, you're such an amazing mom, so beautiful and such a queen. I love you, forgive me for my actions."
Celeste laughed quietly under his breath. Deep down he had envied the relationship between Zephyr and his parents, knowing he could never get the chance to have it again.
"Alright alright, I forgive you." Zephyr's mother smiled. A phone begins to ring. Zephyr's dad slid his hands into his pocket and pulled out the buzzing phone. Which brought all the attention to him. He answered. Moments later he hung up.
"I'm sorry, we have to go. I have a business to handle, it was nice meeting you Celeste, hopefully next time we can talk more!" Zephyr's dad announced and stood up from the couch.
"Yes, very nice meeting you, Celeste!" Zephyr's mother added, and reached for the door. "The gift is for you." She smiled and walked out.
The door closed, leaving the two boys to themselves again.
