(Steve POV)

"So are you going to answer me Bucky?" I say as I walk in with my hands in my pockets. I can't let him see the fists I'm making seeing her so beaten and fragile by his hands. It'll hurt him too much. He is seating down next to her looking at the floor still holding her hand.

Did he even let her go during surgery?

He lets her go for what might have been the first time all night. Takes a deep breath and starts fidgeting with his hands. I grab a chair from across the room and sit next to her, knowing this is going to be hard.

Thanks to Wanda I already know part of what he is going to say but I want him to tell me. It's good therapy for him.

"When I was Winter Soldier I was sent on a mission to kill the Thenrin family. They were a prominent Hydra family." I look at him confused. If they were that important in the organization why would they send someone like Bucky to kill them? "They were selling Hydra secrets to SHIELD" he says taking a deep breath.

"I was told there were to possibly be three targets, no ages were given. Just two females and a male. They told me I had to go get some CDs from the offices that held important information on their experimental work." Bucky gets up angry and frustrated, starting to pace the room. I hold my hands together and lean my elbows on my knees giving him the space he needs.

He is more broken up about this than I thought. What the hell happened between him and Mist back then? I look over at her wondering what could cause him so much distress. She looks like a sleeping angel. Hurt and in need of someone. She has a cloth wrapped around her head, another around her ribs, her right hand looks like its seen better days. The rest of her is covered in a blanket and I can only hope she doesn't have more injuries.

"...I didn't know she was a child" He continues, I just noticed I wasn't paying him any attention. "She found me getting the files after what I did to her parents. Her eyes where so soft and gentle, she wasn't afraid of me, she just... asked if I could help her wake up her parents.." His voice was starting to crack. So she snapped him out of the brainwashing just like that. It took me almost dying to do the same.

"I helped Cassia hide in a closet, I told her she'll be safe there." He slams his metal arm on a table angry. He's angry he failed a little girl.

"Bucky relax before Stark and Bruce kick you out of here for break their toys again." I tell him knowing he wouldn't want to leave her side.

He takes a deep breath and walks over to his original seat and holds her hand again. "I told them the third target wasn't there. I got punished for that when they found out I lied. I remember knowing they found her. I thought they killed her...I was so upset, they had to wipe me again." He leans down and kisses her hand making me look away and flinch.

Dammit Steve...stop this right now.

As if he was reading my mind "there is something about her isn't there? Something that makes you want to be near her, close to her. You just can't help it." I look up at him with my eyes wide. So he feels the same as I do. Great. A full panic starts setting in then I look at her.

"Yea, there is." I take a deep breath and put my hand over her free one. We sit there holding her hands, hoping she wakes up soon. Feeling the need to know more about her. She has to be something amazing if she was able to break Bucky out of his brainwashing so quickly. I can't wait to find out.
