The two months I was on ship that ship were a nightmare. Sleeping on the floor, cleaning every inch of the boat and only getting the scraps of leftover food. No one cared that I was even alive. Well, aside from 1st mate Pit. He was nice and tolerated my mistakes, as well as kept my secret. You see, everyone on board thinks I'm a boy, but when the captain hired me on the spot, he obviously didn't take a good look at me.
The only reason I was on the ship was because when the captain told me he was going to pay me for cleaning, he left the type of pay he meant. While I thought I was getting money, the captain really meant sleeping on the floor, cleaning every inch of the boat and only getting the scraps of leftover food. I think it was safe to say that being on the boat any longer would drive me insane. When I looked up into the moon on that faithful night, I knew that I already had.
(Third person POV)
The moon was at it's peak in the sky, a prime time for creatures of the sea to roam without being spotted by humans. A merman with jet black hair zoomed though the coral reef and had just made it to the outskirts without being caught. All Mermaids and mermen were to stay within the perimeters of the kingdom for safety, but this particular one couldn't care less. He had been locked up his whole life with all these rules and procedures that he didn't think were worth following.
Slipping though the gold barred gate, he swam for his life as if a shark was about to making him dinner. He was finally free to be whoever he wanted. Swimming into the large kelp forest, he heard some guards behind him, coming to bring him back.
Even so, the merman was determined to never go back, so he kept swimming.

(Y/n) sat atop the ship's rail, rocking back and forth in sync with the large boat, sick and tired of what had become her reality. Stuck on a boat with no way home. The worst part was, she didn't even have much of a home to go to after she stole her brother's clothing and ran away. Her mother would call her ungrateful, her dad would yell in her face, and her brother would fuel the fire just enough to have her kicked out. Things would never be the same.
With that conclusion in mind, she flipped her legs over the rail and was suddenly on the very edge of between life and death. Her grip tightened for a brief moment before letting go, the wind passing by her until she hit the water. That's when it all went black.
The merman on the other hand had finally outrun the guards when something had blocked the moon above, darkening the world around him like it had for (Y/n). Then he heard a loud, muffled splash from above. "What the heck?"
His first thought was a fisherman trying to reel in a fish when he caught sight of the boat, but there was no fish squirming around. It was much bigger than any normal fish and looked to have arms, with an addition of legs. The merman knew that it was time to get out of there, but at the same time he was too interested to leave, for he had never seen a human. Despite his subconscious telling him to swim away, he swam closer and closer. The ribbon holding her hair in place fell away and floated to the surface.
Finally, reaching her level, the merman inspected every little detail of the girl. He was pumped up to finally be able to see a live human. Well, she wouldn't be alive for long, for the more bubbles floated from her mouth and nose to the top of the water, the shorter she had to stay in that world.
The merman didn't know why, but he had a feeling a duty, responsibility to save this helpless little girl who couldn't breathe. So, he took to the closest piece of land he could find, which happened to be near the kingdom he had escaped.

(Y/n) POV)
The Sun irritated my eyes to the point where I couldn't keep sleeping as much as I wanted to. Then I remembered what happened. "How am I not dead?"
That's when I saw something in the water in front of me swim away, not even questioning why I was on the beach. I ran and jumped in the water, trying to get a better look at the creature. It turned around when hearing the splash I had created. A merman?!
He had black hair and pale skin as well as a long scaly tail that reflected the top of the water. The boy gave me a quick wave accompanied by a slight smirk and diapered like the wind.
Did he save me?
(AN - not gonna lie, this didn't turn out as good as I was hoping. It's like I freaking forgot my own writing style when I started in third person. Don't kill me for the cringe. Also totally not inspired by that seen in the little mermaid where she saves him, what way would you even say that, hehe.)
[(I do not own the Little Mermaid, that belongs to Disney.)]
