Not Your Daughter (Shoni's Daughter)

Shelby had Y/N as a teenager. Her father, Andrew, was never involved, signing away his parental rights the moment Y/N was born. Shelby met Toni Shalifoe when Y/N was four, and they got married a few years later. One day when Y/N is sixteen, Andrew shows up one morning out of the blue, demanding to see his daughter. Needless to say, Toni goes into protective mom/wife mode. TW: past abusive relationships, homophobic language, and mentions of drug use

Toni has always been there for Y/N. From the moment Shelby introduced the pair when Y/N was four, Toni has been a parental figure to Y/N. When she and Shelby tied the knot a few years later, Toni officially adopted Y/N, whose name was legally changed to Y/N Y/M/N Shalifoe-Goodkind. Toni has been there for every scraped knee, every sick day, every birthday/holiday. Everything. Toni loves Y/N with all her heart, and Y/N feels the same. She loves her family and wouldn't change it for the world. 

One day, the three are in the kitchen. Toni is making chocolate chip pancakes, a favorite of Y/N's since she was a kid. Shelby is braiding Y/N's long Y/H/C hair into a french braid while the girl sits on a bar stool, watching as Toni cooks breakfast. Just as Shelby is finishing the braid, the doorbell rings. 

"I got it," Shelby states.

Shelby heads to the door and opens it to reveal Andrew. Her heartbeat quickens. She has only ever told Toni this, but Andrew was physically and verbally abusive towards her throughout their relationship, which was worse when he was high on drugs. Needless to say, the blonde was glad that he signed away his parental rights and left, even though it meant she would have to raise Y/N on her own. 

"Andrew. What are you doing here?" Shelby asks cautiously, noticing his blood shot eyes and concluding that he is high. 

"I want to see my daughter," He insists. 

"You signed away your parental rights the day she was born. You have no rights to her. She's not yours," Shelby replies.

"Hey, Shelbs. Who's at the door?" Toni questions as she also comes to the door after hearing an unfamiliar voice.

"I'm Y/N's father. You must be the dyke that turned Shelby gay," Andrew sneers.

"First of all, she is NOT your daughter. You may be biologically, but you gave away any rights to her a long time ago. Shelby and I raised her, not you. Second of all, how dare you show up here after what you've done to Shelby? Get lost, dude. No one wants you here," Toni growls. 

"Mom? Mama?" Y/N asks quietly. She heard the commotion and decided to see what was going on. 

"Y/N, go to your room. Now," Shelby orders. She doesn't want Y/N anywhere near Andrew. Y/N obeys after seeing the fear in her mother's eyes.

"Look man, you need to leave. Go or else we will call the police and press charges," Toni tells Andrew.

"Fine. Have it your way. Faggots," he scoofs before leaving angrily.

The moment he is gone, Shelby collapses into Toni's arms, crying quietly from the trauma of seeing her abuser again. Toni shushes her gently, rubbing her back until she is calm. Once Shelby has managed to compose herself, her and Toni head upstairs to Y/N's room. They explain to the scared teen what happened. Y/N angrily states that she will punch Andrew if he shows his face again, causing Shelby and Toni to chuckle. Toni wraps her family into her arms, and as they snuggle on Y/N's bed, Toni vows to herself that she will do everything in her power to ensure that Andrew never comes near her family again.
