Just so you guys know I will make the pokemon's speech italicized when there are other people around because they don't understand them like Dawn can. If Dawn is alone it is normal. Let me know if it's too confusing.

"Who are you and what do you want?" I ask calmly, staring at him intensely. Good thing he can't see my eyes or he might know who I am. He shrugs.

"My name does not matter right now. All I want is a battle. I need the practice" He pushes off the wall and walks towards me. He stops a few feet from me. I glare at him, daring him to come closer. This isn't the Paul I knew 6 years ago. He wouldn't waste time with new trainers, or does he know something I don't? No, it isn't possible for him to know who I am. I scoff.

"Can't you tell I'm a new trainer? I just walked out of Roxanne's gym." I cross my arms over my chest. He always gets me angry. I need to calm down. I won't get worked up over him. He scowls at me, but I stand my ground.

"That Chatot on your shoulder begs to differ." He says, pointing at the bird pokemon. "Though you may be right. He is probably pathetic considering how big he is." He turns on his heels and starts to walk away with his hands stuffed in his pocket. Chatot chirps angrily.

"How dare he insult me. He has NO idea how powerful I am. Come on, Dawn. I need to show that jerk that I am ruthless."

"Quiet, Chatot." I hiss. "Fine, I will. Only because your pride is on the line." I step forwards. I'm not completely sure about this, but if I don't do this Chatot is going to be complaining about it all day and that is something I can live without.

"Hey!" I shout. He slowly turns towards me. "You want a battle? I'm here all day, so battle me while you have the chance." A frown grows on my face as he smirks at me. I just walked right into that one. I sigh, admitting defeat.

"If you insist. We'll use Roxanne's battlefield." He says. He walks past me and into the gym. He stops to talk to Roxanne before going to one end of the field. I scowl and push my way through the doors.

"I have a bad feeling about this. You better win, Chatot." I mutter as I walk to the other end. He smirks at me.

"Oh don't worry. He won't know what hit him." He shakes his body to loosen his muscles. The referee looks at us anxiously. He raises his flags above his head.

"This will be a one-on-one battle between Paul of Veilstone City and Hikari of Hearthome City. Let this battle begin!" He lowers his flags and Paul grabs a pokeball.

"Torterra, stand by for battle." He throws out his ball and Torterra lands on the ground causing a slight earthquake. He roars and stares at me, waiting for me to show my choice. At least I have the advantage.

"Okay, Chatot! Let's go!" I shout. Chatot flies past me and lands on the ground. He looks up at the massive Torterra.

"Let's do our best." he says, bowing his head. Torterra returns the jesture.

"Yes, let's." he replies. Paul looks at me.

"You can go first." he sneers. I smirk, already thinking of a strategy.

"Alright, if you insist on losing." He glares at me. I snicker. I never realized I could retort like that. I chuckle silently at me new found knowledge.

"Start this off with Hyper Voice, Chatot." Chatot nods and let's lose an ear-piercing screech. Everyone around me covers their ears. Torterra cringes at the loud noise. Chatot already know my next move. I swear that bird can read me like an open book. His claws glow red and he goes in to give a series of Furry Swipes at Torterra. Torterra gets hit and slides backwards a few inches.

"Not bad." he grumbles, getting up.

"Thanks." Chatot chrips in return. Paul stands calmly and folds his arms across his chest. He thinks his got it all wrapped up. Just you wait, Paul. Just you wait.

"Torterra use earthquake." he calls. Torterra raises his front legs, getting ready to pound the ground into submission.

"Quick, Chatot. Get in the air!" Chatot spreads his wings and leaps into the air just as Torterra unleashes his powerful earthquake, but Paul wasn't done yet.

"Use giga drain." The rocks on Torterra's back glow green and they extend towards Chatot who is hovering in mid-air.

"Use your speed to your advantage, Chatot." Chatot takes off and flies away from the vines. Using his supreme speed he dodges the oncoming attack before resting on the ground in front of me. Paul scowls.

"Your smarter than I thought" he sneers. I roll my eyes.

"Gee, thanks." I say sarcastically. His glare hardens once more. His onyx-black eyes focus on me and I glare back, or try to. His eyes are just so hypnotizing. Enough with the nonsense, Dawn. Focus on the battle and show him how strong you really are. I shake my head furiously and refocus my attention on the battle.

"Use Frenzy Plant." he shouts harshly. Torterra roars and stomps the ground. The ground shakes and huge vines covered in thorns shoot out of the ground. Chatot is already in the air awaiting my next move. I growl. Guess I have to use it now.

"You know what to do, Chatot! Fly towards the Torterra!" I yell. He smirks at my plan and flies towards the vines and Torterra. Paul's eyes widen slightly before returning to his usual frown. Chatot suddenly glows white and dramatically increases in speed. He is moving so fast he is just a blur. He dodges the vines and races towards Torterra. Torterra's eyes widen in shock right before Chatot slams into him. I bet Paul wasn't expecting Chatot to know Aerial Ace. Point for me then. Torterra falls to the ground with a thud. He attempts to get up, but he collapses to the ground beachside of the immense amount of damage he had taken. The referee raises one of his flags.

"Torterra is unable to battle. The battle goes to Chatot which means the winner is Hikari of Hearthome City." He announces. Chatot glides back and alights on my shoulder. I smile at him and ruffle his feathers. He scowls at me and lightly nips my finger. I chuckle.

"Thank you, Chatot. You were amazing and your Aerial Ace is so powerful now." I rub his head and he purrs gratefully. I look back at the field and see Paul return his Torterra. He mumbles something before he returns the ball to his belt. I casually saunter up to him.

"What do you think of Chatot now?" I ask while trying to hide my snicker . He scowls at me before replying.

"How in the world does your Chatot know Aerial Ace?" I snort and turn away before replying.

"While I was in Johto I met a wise, old man in the forest. He was being attacked by a group of Pidgeys, so decided I saved him. He thanked me and asked if I wanted something in return. He said he saw the bond Chatot and I shared so he offered to teach him Aerial Ace. I agreed and we spent about a month before Chatot fully learned how to use the move. That's how." I snap, finishing my explanation and turn back around to find Paul looking at me with a bored glint in his eyes. A growl echoes in my throat and I spin around, and walk back towards the doors.

"Thanks for the battle." I call over my shoulder. "I enjoyed seeing your hopeless attempt at defeating me." I hear a low growl and a smirk appears on my face before heading back to the center. I never knew how much fun teasing Paul really is.
