Part Three - Alison & Paul
Alison didn't see Paul again until the following evening, when she was taking Jake for a walk.
She was passing Harvey's cottage on her way back home, when he came out to greet her at the gate. It made her realise he must have been looking out for her.
Allthough she wasn't quite sure why it had that affect on her, she discovered she was pleased,
As she came to a halt outside his gate Jake, recognised Paul, making bark happily in greeting, and jumping up on the gate, so Paul was forced to acknowledge him also.
"Hey fella, nice to see you again too," he chuckled reaching over the gate and patting the big black Labrador on the head, before turning his attention to Alison
You are just the person I have been looking for, and I was hoping to catch you,"
"Oh really?" she returned a little intrigued, " and why is that?"
"Well, I was thinking of maybe doing a little fishing now while I am here, so I want to take you up on that offer you made me on my arrival" he informed her. "You do know the best spots for it, right?" he then asked, as if needed it reaffirmed.
"Yes I do," Alison replied happily, "And of course I'll gladly show you if that's what you want to do" she smiled
"Good," he returned, "I noticed Harvey left some of his fishing gear in the cottage so I will sort that out, you can let me know when you have the free time to show me, and we will make the arrangements"
"Sure, that's fine by me," Alison replied, easily, her mind was now occupied, trying to work out when it would be best, "What about this Sunday afternoon, I am usually free then" she then suggested
"Yeah ok, I am good with that," Paul agreed, " After all, it's not like I have a busy social calendar whilst I am here, " he grinned, he leant a little forward over the gate towards her, "And how would you like it, if we catch anything tasty, I let you sample my expert culinary skills with a fish, as your reward ?" he suggested
"Hmm, now," Alison screwed her nose up a little, pretending to think hard on it, " I hope that offer is not just your way of you trying to impress a simple little Irish girl, is it?" she found herself teasing him.
"Maybe," he returned with the same light hearted banter, "So, are you tempted?
"Tell you what," she then replied decisively , "If you do actually catch anything, then I will let you know"
"I guess I will have to settle for that," Paul relented, but there was a twinkle of amusement in his blue eyes, "Do y'know you make it hard for a man to impress a simple Irish girl,"
Alison just laughed, "It will do you no harm, anyway I get the feeling you get things your way far too easy with most girls, if I am right"
"Well its nice you think so highly of me," Paul pretended to look slightly offended, "And I get the feeling you are not such a simple Irish girl either, because you always have some smart assed reply to put me in my place. But no doubt you think I need it,"
"I am glad you are starting to realise it," Alison smiled, "Although I have to say you do seem different now somehow," her brown eyes now scrutinised him, as she tried to figure it out.
"Actually, I think you seem more upbeat and happier," she then realised, sounding a little analytic about it, much to his amusement
"Well, it is obviously the affect your company has on me," Paul replied glibly
She was getting used to him and his remarks; so instead of going all quiet and withdrawn as she had done previously, she just threw her head back and laughed at him.
