Finally, it's time for lunch and what luck, I share lunch period with Maya and Lukas.
As we walked through the hallways, I noticed someone out of the corner of my eye. He was tall with a navy blue emo fringe covering his left eye. He wore mostly leather and had a few facial piercings. He was staring right at me.
Maya snapped me out of my thoughts "That's Jason, the bad boy of our school."
Ok, so this time I'm definitely steering clear. Already I'm getting flashbacks to Lyon.
I tried my best to ignore him and instead focus on my new friends until I heard "Hey, you..."
I looked behind me and he's speeding behind me.
I turned to Maya with pleading eyes, and as though she knew what I was about to say, we sped up, cutting corners trying to get this guy off our trail.
Finally we did as we ended up at a cozy little corner table in the cafeteria.
"What was that about?" Lukas asked, confused.
"He...he reminded me of my ex. Can we just leave it there?"
Lukas and Maya gave me that look, they could tell something was up.
I took a deep breathe "Well, since we're going to be friends I should tell you...but you can't tell anyone else. Got it?"
The two of them nodded in agreement.
"Well...first of all, Jessica isn't my real name. I had it changed for protection."
My voice shook "My real name is Y/N."
There was a minor gasp of shock from Lukas. But Maya just looked as though the pieces were all coming together
"So that explains your appearance."
"And your clumsiness when we first met." Lukas chimed in.
I continued my story "I ran away from home because I wanted to forge a new identity, as someone other than the toxic boy magnet. Besides, it's not like I had much of a choice."
Lukas and Maya leaned in, intrigued "go on" they both said in unison."
"Well..."
ONE WEEK BEFORE CHAPTER 1
I had just gotten home from school. Another day, another muscle wall shoving me against my locker. When will this cycle end?
I was then greeted by my mother who was clearly drunk, clearly stoned, and clearly should've had CPS called on her months ago. "Y/N, I hope you enjoyed your last day of school-."
"Last day? Mom it's October 5-"
"Don't interrupt me" my mom shouted, making me wince in fear "I hope you enjoyed your last day of school, because I just sold you to pay for my drugs."
I stared at her in utter shock and disbelief "I'm sorry, you what?!"
"Your new owner will be here soon to collect you."
"My new WHAT?! Mom, you seriously sold your child like a dog? What the actual fuck?! Why?!"
My mom then slapped me hard in the face "because you're a pain in the neck."
I scowl at her "Aunt Lisa doesn't think that, in fact I bet she wouldn't sell me."
"Well then maybe you should've lived with her." She practically screamed in my face.
Our shouting match was cut short by the doorbell ringing.
"Go upstairs and pack your bag while I talk with your new owner."
"Oh, I'll go upstairs" I thought "I'll pack, but it won't be for this human trafficking asshole."
As I get to my room, I pack a small duffle bag as I call Aunt Lisa's cell.
"Hi, Y/N. Is everything okay" Lisa answers
"Hey, I know this is sudden but I need to stay with you for a while. Please, it's an emergency."
"Of course, dear. I'll get your bus ticket right away. Is there anything else you need?"
"Yes, I need to be transferred to the highschool in your area, and for you to start referring to me as Jessica."
"You're scaring me."
"I promise, I'll explain once I'm in a safer location."
I hung up the phone as I put the last essential belonging in my duffle bag.
My mom then called up "Y/N get your ass down here and meet your new owner.
Yeah, right.
New owner, my ass.I opened up the window, and climbed out using the tree branch coincidentally close enough for my use and I book it. I just wanted to put as much distance behind me as possible.
(A/N: I hope you guys enjoyed this little flashback in Jessica's life. If not, that's okay too. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion)
