"So let me get this straight" said Maya, "Your mother tried to sell you for drug money, so you ran away and are now living with your aunt. Wow, I mean no offense or anything, but you really are a Y/N-Ow!"
Lukas put on an innocent face as though he didn't just kick Maya under the table.
"It's fine" I said "I already know I'm a fanfic protagonist, and I'm now trying to be a normal teen going to a normal school with no drama."
Lukas and Maya give each other the look, the kind only best friends understand.
"Lukas and I decided that we're going to help you, but we can't guarantee it'll be easy."
Lukas continued "We first need to gauge you to see what kind of Y/N we're dealing with."
I looked at them both with a quizzical expression "Gauge?"
Maya pointed to her shimmering hazel orbs "Alright, what are these?"
"orbs."
"And this" Maya pointed to Lukas' chest
"A wall of muscle?"
Maya leaned over Lukas "This is going to be a nightmare."
"I thought you loved challenges." Lukas retorted "besides, she's our friend now."
"Alright, we'll do this cause she's our friend."
Maya turned back to me "Ok, so lesson #1 when it comes to being a normal student. Never. Sing. Fight. Song. On. The. Roof"
"If I ever do that, you have permission to kill me."
Maya gave me that same beautifully warm smile she gave me in the hallway before continuing "Lesson 2-"
Before she could continue, she was cut off by Blue haired, Bad boy Jason approaching our table. "I've been trying to find you all lunch period, and now that I've finally caught up with you...I'd like to return your phone."
Jason automatically switched his demeanor from threatening to super cute and friendly, as he places my phone down on the lunch table. I recognized it from the phone case.
"I noticed it falling from your pocket back in the hall. Don't worry I didn't look through it, that case is really cool though. I love Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. Have you thought about joining any clubs? You should definitely check out the art club, we're meeting tomorrow after school. Well, later."
And with that, Jason left. I turned to Maya "That's the bad boy of the school?"
Maya nodded
"That can't be. He has the personality of a golden retriever."
"Yeah, a golden retriever who received 2 months of detention for spray painting the words 'Eat the Rich' on one of the school walls" Lukas retorted
"One of his finest masterpieces" Maya chimed in.
Oh, so he's a bad boy in the sense that he's radicalized.
After school ended, Lukas and I walked back to the apartment building. When I walked into the apartment, Aunt Lisa was on the phone clearly pissed with whoever she was talking to.
"I always knew right from the start that my brother could do better than you. I always had that gut feeling you weren't good enough, but now, Karen...now you've taken it too far! No! I will not help you look for her. Do you understand?!"
Aunt Lisa then angrily hung up the phone.
"Who were you talking to?" I ask
"Your mom, she found out about your runaway scheme. Don't worry, I haven't told her about your whereabouts, but just be aware she is looking for you.
Fan-Fucking-Tastic
"And I bet that creep she was trying to sell me to is also searching"
"Hey! Your mom isn't selling you to anyone. Not while I have anything to say about it."
Did I mention Aunt Lisa is my favorite aunt?
"Thanks, Aunt Lisa, for everything. Also, can we order pizza for dinner?"
"Of course, dear"
