Reyna's POV
I woke with a pounding head ache and blurry memories. I could hear a voice talking, but it was muffled and distorted. My eyes zoomed in and out of focus as I took in my surroundings.
I was lying on a couch in some plain room. What really seemed out of the ordinary, though, was the pair of brilliant blue eyes hovering over me. I groaned and attempted to clear my clouded thoughts.
A very concerned Luke Hemmings soon came into view, crouched by my side. That's when it all came back; the fighting the yelling the crying. I tried to sit up but an arm held me down. My ears had finally decided to stop buzzing and allowed me to use them.
"Easy Rey." Luke mumbled. I noticed his bruising jaw and rugged appearance, but he seemed to not be effected. Before I could open my mouth, the blonde cut me off.
"Calum left a while ago. You've been passed out for about an hour. I guess you had some type of panic attack?"
"Thanks to you." I snapped, but my hoarse throat made my voice crack. Luke sighed a chewed on the inside of his cheek.
"Calum deserved it." He growled before standing up and walking towards the wall, fists clenched. I took in the details of his back. The way the muscles were defined through his shirt, and his broad shoulders that somehow captivated me. But I shouldn't be thinking like this when he attacked my friend.
"How did he deserve exactly?" I asked, carefully sitting up. Luke remained facing the wall for some odd reason.
"He's playing you Reyna."
"The only one playing me is you Luke." I scoffed. What the hell is he talking about. He pushes me away then gets all pissy when I'm hanging out with someone? I'm not mentally prepared for any of this shit and I just wanted straight answers. Luke whipped around and held my gaze a little aggressively.
"Why do you think he's only coming to you now when you've gone to school together for 2 years?"
"How do you even know that?"
The punk rolled his eyes like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
"I hear Calum talking about it all the time. He hooks up with Rayley just about every weekend. They're trying to get you to fall for him so they can laugh at you, Rey."
I was trying desperately to understand yet everything refused to make sense. Why is this girl so set on trying to destroy me when all I literally do is eat and sleep. I just wanted to be left alone and live my average, quiet life. It actually hurt to think someone could hate me this much and constantly try to make my life miserable.
What was even more frustrating was the fact that Luke even cares. He should be with them right? He's just another asshole that enjoys others pain and misery. I never did anything to get his attention and I never wanted his attention.
But now that he was here, the blonde was all I needed. His blue eyes were studying me closely, as if trying to decipher my mind. My head was hurting way too much to be thinking all of this at once. I wanted nothing more than to sleep for about 5 years.
"Why are you even bothering with telling me." I murmured, eyes stinging with the threat of tears. I was not emotionally sound right now, my usual walls were too weak to be built up.
Luke sighed, his clenched muscles relaxing and eyes drained back to its usual solemn look.
"You don't deserve it." The blonde pauses, choosing his next words carefully.
"And I care about you."
It took me a moment to properly process the words. I tried to keep the blush from rising to me cheeks failed. The tall boy slowly approached me and pulled my tired frame from the couch. Luke pulled me close but not to an extreme. His hand found my cheek and brushed it slowly. I was 96% sure he could hear my very rapid heart beat as it seemed to be pounding out of my chest.
